Hi there.

Had my E-class for about 3 weeks now and love the the thing!

There have been two events with the gearbox though.

First one was when I pulled away from a roundabout from standstill and it would not change from first.

I had to come off the throttle then it went back to normal.

Second was yesterday when I was sitting in traffic in neutral, put it in to drive and pressed the accelerator but it revved and didn't go anywhere then...you've guessed it...BANG and it shot forward.

Luckily I wasn't pressing hard on the loud pedal.

I was trying to find a thread about an S-class with the same fault but I can't find it.

Anyone got any theories?

It has a 3 month AA warranty that seemed pucka.

Will I be calling them shortly?

You defineitly have a problem with your gearbox.

The fault codes need to be read and if necessary the sump pan dropped to investigate for damage. (metal filings etc)

Check near the front under the radiator - see if you can see any fluid. The pipes to the transmission cooling rad tend to rust through which leads to low transmission fluid level and wierd gearbox stuff including (in my case) flaring between changes, reluctance to change etc.

Looking under the bonnet near the rad at the front is a 30 second job with no tools other than a torch. Next you need to get the level checked, but at this point you've probably taken it to a gearbox specialist anyway who will do this and read the codes and give you a sensible diagnosis! Whatever the diagnosis, get whoever to check the condition of the pipes as if they need to be changed, best to get them done while its in bits anyway.

Could this be a fault where the K3 or B3 comes loose causing momentary loss of pressure, and just a sump off job to tighten it up

Hi and thanks for the replies.

Do you have to check the transmission oil level with the engine running on these?

Does the error code need to be checked at a dealership or will any good transmission specialist be able to plug in to it?

I will be changing the fluid anyway so I'll see what is involved in dropping the sump.

Television, what is a K3 or a B3?

Lastly, I think I read on here that the transmission can be reset or is this just on S-class types?

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

The work in the link shouldn't be too difficult.

I'll have a crack at it and let you know how I get on.

Mike.
