wuz away from home for a week...when returned my mb battery was flat..jump started it..had 2 malfunctions (ABS and BAP) which were rectified by moving steering lock to lock..... NOW THE PROBLEM STARTS FROM HERE..having no malfunctions on the cluster, i took it for a drive...only then i realised that my MB got stuck in its second gear (showing D in the gear display on cluster)...the gear was locked in D eventhough i tried to change it manually by stick(+ / -)..but no sign of gear change....even drove it for 10 miles but the problem persists...as suggested in the forum i disconnected the battery for 30 minutes to reset the gearbox memory but the problem was still there.....PLEASE HELP ME URGENTLY!!!!!!!!

hi
there has been a similar problem on a previous thread, the battery allthough showing 12v+ the amp rate was low, you said you had a flat battery, so just a thought, good luck,..

but the cluster displays no malfunction!!! can there still be error codes

Happened to me. Exactly the same symptoms. Nothing on the dash but local MB place extracted fault codes all the same (yep - not all faults result in something being shown on the dash). Turned out to be the conductor plate in the gearbox. Cost me £500 but that included new gearbox filter and fluid which I was going to change anyway.

yea xactly its in the limp mode......what is MAF and how do we clean it?? And where is it located on w210 cdi?

I don't think it's the MAF but try disconnecting it and run the car.

The MAF is the first sensor in the air intake just after the air filter box.

MB services are not approchable in my area so ive just ordered an OBD interface + software to read the error codes...it would take a week for the reader to reach my place...wat should i do till then???? Is there anything else i can try to get my merc outta limp mode??

Just cleaned the MAF sensor, there was some oil on it...but no luck with the gearbox problem...wats the next step?

hi
on some models there is a feature for unlocking the gearbox by the selector, a plastic panal, coin holder, near front of arm rest, thay sugest a pen or similar, check your manual it should point you in the right direction, good luck,..

thx ppl.... got my problem solved today...went to MB dealer and they washed out the error codes in the memory for just Rs 1200 (approx 12 GBP)...shew it solved the headache

btw: the technicians suggested never to jump start the MB having electronic keys....rather for a flat battery always take it out, recharge or replace it with a new one and start........STRICTLY NO JUMP START. The problem was due to overvoltage during the jump start session.

Well if thats the case then wouldn't it be easier just to buy some leads with a voltage regulator? I have some leads in the boot, but I think I'll take them out now, its not the first time I've heard this warning.

That's something else to think about!
Do you just mean "Keyless Go" or also the electronic key fob without a metal insert - the sort that's been around since about 2000?

Both of them...infact all types of electronic ignition keys
