W210 E280 estate 1999 facelift; 6th gen honda accord coupe 2000
Hi all
I would like to know if anybody has knowledge or experience of converting a 5 seat W210 series estate to seven seats.

Somebody posted on another thread the name of a company who fit conversions, www.luxury7 , but their phone is always engaged and they haven't replied to my message yet

I'm particularly interested in knowing whether the mounting points for the seats and the seat belts are present in a 5 seater 210. If they are present, then i expect that it could be a simple job of just bolting things together. ( I don't have a car yet - I'm looking to buy one. But if i can include 5 seaters in my search, then the net will be cast wider).

I'd be thinking of buying used parts. Does anybody know how much these might cost, or a good place to try to get them?

I already spoke to my closest MB dealer about this today, but the service dept didn't know anything and suggested I should call MBUK instead. Unfortunately MBUK are closed on weekends so I'm no further forward.

While you wait for someone who has done this before.....

I wanted the 5 seat version and saw some 7 seaters and the dealers showed how it is very easy to take out the extra two seats. So maybe it is easy the other way round. I'm surprised the MB dealer wasn't more helpful. At the least they can quote you for the parts. Good luck.

I've done plenty of W124s but not tried a W210. If you can get the parts from a breaker I'd be prepared to install them. You have to make sure you have all the parts - every bolt washer & clip!

What made you not want the 7 seats? As far as I can tell, the only drawback to having them is that you lose the tiny bit of under floor boot space in which the seat base stows, and which ends up being the footwell for the kids who are using it.

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the offer. But if i knew the mounting brackets were definitely there, I'b be prepared to tackle the job myself. But if i knew the brackets were not there, or they might not be there, then i'd just buy a 7 seater.

Did you get my PM?

Children grown up and don't need the seven seats. Value all the boot space.

Well yes, I can see that if you don't have kids, or they are too large to use the back seat then they would be a waste of time.

I rang MBUK this morning to see whatthey would say. First of all they said I should ask my dealer, then when I told them I'd already spoken to my nearest MB dealer, who didn't have a clue, they put me on to a technician.

At first he wasn't sure, then said it would probably be possible. When I explained that it would have a bearing on what car I buy, because I was enquiring about the issue to help me choose a car to buy, he said he'd look in more detail. He asked me for a chassis number, which I could not give him.

After a while he came back and said that it would definitely not be possible to retro fit the extra rear seats into a W210 estate. But his voice did not sound as sure as his words, so I am sceptical of what he said.

Can anybody out there with A w210 estate 5 seater from around 1999 to 2002 help me. Could you either:
1) ring MBUK and ask them the question about whether your own car could be converted to 7 seats. (you will need the chassis number. )
Or
2) give me their chassis number so I can ring MB to ask them myself.

This can DEFINATELY be done... why are you ringing MB? they wont help...too scared you will try to sue them should it go wrong..

did you ask luxury 7? They have done these IIRC.
The easiest way is to find a seven seater at a scrap yard and swap all the relevant bits over... as there are a fair few bits to change.

Does anybody have access to a database with a parts list or an exploded diagram showing what parts are necessary to fit the 7 seat option to a 5 seat W210?

Unless I can take the parts off a car myself I would wonder if i was being sold everything I need.

I know a few people who have converted cars to 7 seaters, but you really do need another car for all the parts.

You'll need the seat belts, the seats, the hinges, the floorboards and the carpetty bit you feet rest on, along with all the fittings.

Can't you get that from a dealer -spares dept?

With my W123 estate and my two W124 estates these two compartments were pretty useful for housing CD changers , amplifiers , tools etc without having them in the open boot area .

Another factor is that insurance for a 7 seater was more than for a 5 seater .

I used my estate cars to lug equipment around in , people in the boot would have left no room to carry anything .

It should be possable , I have done this on the 211 , and all the brackets are there along with the bolts to ancor the beat belts on either side of the seat .
I know that with the 211 these extra seats cannot be bought as a retro-fit kit , im not sure about the 210 .

I have a five seater (did have a seven seater when the kids were younger). Anyway isn't it strange the way MB do not have two underfloor compartments in the 5 seaters instead of just the one at the back. There is another void which could easily have a lid like the one at the back. Instead it is covered by the floor.

But the further forward one would just be so shallow it would be of no use.

It might be a little more shallow but it could take a laptop? You have seven seats measure it for me please. Many thanks and regards from Belfast 4.

Hi

Usable space is 900mm wide 400mm long and 25mm deep tapering down to 70mm deep with a little 1/2 pear shaped lump in the carpet in the middle somewhere.

Oh! Thanks! Where are you?
