Hi there,
First of all hope this is the correct area!
Anyway, got a 99 E200 classic with the old style aircon (the thumbwheels, dials and buttons).
Aircon has not worked since owning the car (a couple of months ago). I assumed it had a leak, and as such never bothered touching it. However I was curious to see, so I hooked up a gauge to the low pressure side port and its saying circa 60psi.
The EC light goes out/comes on as it should, however I do not hear the compressor engage. But I'm not sure if I should? I know certainly my old peugeot it was very audible!
Also with the EC button off (light off) the fan does not come on, which I imagine it should if the aircon was functioning.
So I'm a bit stumped as looking around it seems you cant diagnose the A/C system without the newer style digital display.
Any ideas on things I can check myself to try and pinpoint the problem without spending anything?
Ta
Alec
