Hi,

I have a small problem/dilemma. Some say it's OK - totally normal with an ASR car, some say it is a problem.

The engine in my 1998 w210 E230 AT (automatic) Elegance is in a very good shape, i believe, and so is the rest of the car which is regulary serviced in my local MB dealership in Prague. I've owned the Merc now for almost three years and never ever tried to rev it high on the neutral while standing. Today, after my Friday oil and filter has been changed, I've made a morning test drive - as i always do. After a nice ride, I parked the car and reved the angine a bit again as I've prob. never did before and something interesting happened.

The revs couldn't axceed cca 3750/min., it just "stops" there. I drove the car again for a while and it behaved well as ever - smoothly reved all the way up close to the red zone, but not at the neutral nor the parking mode, whereafter it just can't pass the 3750 revs. Does anyone know what it might be? Is it a standard setting or a system error on my ECU I've just developed on my engine?

thank you.

The fuel pump relays are built to cut the electric supply to the pumps at 4k, if it did go over then the relay is at fault on an auto car

Again, absolutely normal, this is to prevent over reving, after all why would you want to rev this high in neutral?
