W210 E55 cuts out then takes a while before will restart, help!

As said earlier. A cheap reader may cost less than a CPS. Without this you are chasing shadows. It could be many things. A cheap Bluetooth reader will help.

It's definitely the Cps, Gemtech in Essex won't charge you a great deal to do the job.

Ive had six Mercedes over the years and every one has had to have a CPS at some time, About £100 plus fitting, although the AA man did two of them!. All the rest of my cars Probably another 50+ (I am quite old) have not had one fail. Odd eh? Without tempting fate , just waiting for the CLS55 one to go so I have a full house.

Possibly your older cars did not have a CPS?

Tread carefully. It’s hard to see for certain but looks as though you’ve slipped off a few times already?

I used a 1/4” drive E8 socket, decent quality (snap-on) with a variety of extensions, UJs and wobble bits to get access. Hold it dead straight onto the fastener with one hand and apply torque carefully with the other. It was pretty easy on the 210 320 (V6) but very tight on the CLK55 (same engine, smaller chassis..)

What I would say is even if you get the bolt out, be aware that sometimes these crank sensors can be awkward to remove. I had one seized solid in my 911 and instead of being a 10 minute job took many hours and swearing to get it out (don’t ask!)

Fortunately on the MB ones I did they all came out easily..but with age and mileage yours may be less willing. I’d never have thought a plastic coated sensor could become seized in place but believe me it does happen.

Best of luck :)

Did slip a few times but i wasn't putting enough pressure on it to damage it I don't think, I could feel it wasn't on properly so i was being careful.

I have a reader and an adapter, they won't communicate with the ECU.

Fingers crossed it's fixed, has just done the longest journey without dying since it started acing up.

Had a local garage fit the sensor, they charged me 50 quid plus the sensor was £38 so if it is mneded I'm happy with that. Will do more running around tomorrow when its less dark, rainy and rush hourey. ;)

Seems mended. :)

Fingers crossed for you.

A tip (not preaching). If you do buy a scanner. Make sure you get one that can:

Produce “real time data”
Read & clear codes. Some only do or the other.

Can be updated with a lifetime degree & study course in black belt computer programming.

Buy only from an approved dealer with warranty. Especially if going for iCarsoft. The market is awash with clones (I know this)

They can save you lots of money. But they can also induce moments of severe anxiety if you read every single code.

I had mine hooked up to an android head unit in my last car, it displayed real time data using torque pro and some of the headunits own features, i think its the adapter is the issue on the W210, might need to rewire it. :)
