Anyone ever removed the petrol tank from a W210 estate ? What are the pitfalls ? :dk:

You're not a smoker?

Yes i am

I have pulled many tanks from 210 estates , its held in place by 4 bolts , 13mm socket head . Depending on what model you have , there will be different piping , but there always on the front side of the tank . The unplug the fuel sender , there is a plastic cover on the inside of the car , under the boot floor covers , this acess the fuel sender . The filler neck will come away with the tank , it would be best to empty the tank frist , there is a drain plug on the under side of the tank .

Thanx Shorty, thats very usefull info, all looks a bit complicated around the pipes area. Have you ever put one back in ?

Hi

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO WELD A PETROL TANK!!

They must be drained and steam cleaned as an absolute minimum, if it was me i would try and use some epoxy compound our whatever.

You probably know all that but some dont.

Good luck

230k,dont worry, used to welding em in my stock car driving years

ringway,Paul,i can see i'm gonna bring em to your local GTG !

Yea they always went back in . The cars where getting converted into Hearses . The pipes are not hard , from memory its only 2 pipes , and there different sizes .

2 ?, Mine's got about 6,& a cable, all in the same confined area, obviously they are not all petrol pipes, but it rather looks as if they will have to be removed before the tank comes off.

Have removed petrol storage tank by cutting holes in sides for lifting chains and seen them burnt out of cars at scrap yard, an empty vented tank is of little concern, but letting petrol soak your clothes from the pipes is a bigger risk and lying underneath in a puddle of it .......bonfire night!

Ive welded a motrocycle petrol tank a couple of times before, steamed out and left to vent for a few days no problem.

An empty tank with a small amount of petrol in the bottom is about as dangerous as it gets. It's not the petrol that's the problem it's petrol vapour in a confined space.
