I finaly decided to find some time to look at my parking sensors. I know which on is faulty and I need to swap one that is 2nd from left side front.

Now I wonder if I have to remove bumber to get access to it or can I just remove bottom covers and I should be able to access it from there? I really would like to do swap myself but I dont want to run into front bumper removal job.

You can remove just the centre strip that holds the sensors. It's just clipped in but you need to be very careful when removing it. You have to begin on the corner not on either of the ends as they slide in.

What do you mean by that? What strip?

The bumper has a seperate centre strip, the part where the chrome is on a facelift car. Its band that wraps around the bumper and is about 2" wide. This comes off on its own, use a plastic wedge or similar. Begin removal on the outside curve and undo clips along till the outers. Note the outer sides of the trim slide in so dont try and unclip them.

I know this is an old thread but I still can't decide if my bumper has to come off to get at the sensors. It's a w210 51 plate, E320 cdi estate, facelift model.

My bumpers have a grey band which holds the parking sensors, within the grey band is a small chrome strip, just above the senors.

This thread has confused me even more, as the grey strip measures about 3-4 inches, and the chrome strip within about an inch.

Can I remove the whole grey strip to get at the sensors or is it a bumper off job?

Any replies appreciated.

ps - I've read all there is to read about this on several fourms and even my local MB dealer couldn't be bothered to look at my car and could not give me a definitive answer as to whether the bumper would have to come off!

HI if its a rear one the bumper has got to come of my local indi did one for me last year took him about 40 mins

Baz, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if it's the front or rear which is at fault. They work intermittently, but mainly not at all.

Because of this I suspect a loose connection, or a bad earth, as they sometimes work in the wet, and I think the water is earthing it.

It's whether the bumper has to come off or not. If it doesn't I'll do it myself. But I don't want to start pulling away at the insert, thinking it'll come away, when it wont.
