Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience in mod'ing the ECU on w210's to improve economy or indeed to improve performance without decreasing economy?

mark:confused:

You can't have your cake and eat it! Extra performance has to come from somewhere and that's usually fuel consumption, unless you fit a more efficient engine. There are tuning companies who can map an engine for economy - Celtic Tuning springs to mind, so it may be worth having a chat with them or a similar company.

Don't those two comments contradict each other?

The first one is correct really, but then given additional torque the gearbox MAY hold higher gears for longer so give greater economy.
Changing driving style will give a better result though.

I had my E55 AMG mapped by Angel Tuning and it was mean't to unleash a few more horses but what I also found was that the mpg did go up a little - may be worth having a chat with them and telling them what you are after.

There is a current group buy running for angel tuning remaps @ £150

Get on it !!!

A perfectly tuned engine can deliver more performance and better economy than a factory spec car. Obviously if you choose to use the performance your economy will drop :thumb:

So how do you "tune" a diesel engine?

Driving style i think is the key as you say, having come from hardcore Scooby's i have ahd to adapt quite a lot already :)

never ever had a Merc let alone a diesel, so hence my complete ignorance of such matters !

Ok ok, je suis le novice de blogs etc etc - where do i find said group and thus the opportunity to rteceive said group discount and discover what they could or could not do for a Diesel ??

Please?

Tuning boxes are a good idea and they work very well. You just have to buy the right one. ;)

Would this be Ollie by any chance??

Given that you are all of 2 miles away from my front door, i guess i had better come over and meet you guys and see "which one is right" !!! :)

Sorry for the late response. you can also change your air filter to a life long foam type like ITG . do not use a cotton type like K & N as they allow more dirt which may damage your air sensors or even your engine. I also use the latest mercedes engine oil ( made by comma ) which is a thiner oil whicn is ok for the 320cdi.
