Where is the Glow plug relay\Module located on these engines it's the OM642 one. I need to change as my code reader gave fault code of other module voltage issue ans I believe it's a common issue. Do I need the dealer to change this or can I just do it myself if its easily accessible?

(Ignore the arrow in the photo but is the engine I've got)

As you look at your picture the large rubber pipe to the left of the arrow, alongside that runs a smaller rubber pipe. The box that you see below the thin pipe is the glow plug relay.

Near the ABS unit or near the fuel filter?

These are codes I read

P2245 02 sensor reference voltage circuit low
P0131 02 sensor circuit low voltage
P0030 heater control circuit
P2239 02 sensor positive circuit control circuit high
P0670 glow plug module control circuit
P0130 02 sensor circuit
P0135 02 sensor heater circuit
P1101

Car runs very well jut that cold start issue and these stored codes which I cleared and keep coming back! Should I go to the dealer?

I have marked it for you in red in my picture.

I am not sure that it is a glow plug relay only fault.

Mine said glow plug relay open circuit.

I also got white smoke on start up. I think that you should get it checked on a star machine to be honest.

Inbox me the picture that you highlighted coz I can't see it

Too many CIRCUIT errors on mine which made me this glow plug module must be triggering all these

You have picture via PM

hi How did you get on with this, I think mine has gone, is there a way to test it ? also where is the best place to get one from. Thanks

Ya I changed the relay and car starts ok 1st time now. I bought the relay straight from Mercedes £134 and it looks different to the old one,I asked the guy at the dealer and he confirmed that it had been upgraded due to the many problems with the old one. It's an easy 15min job to do so you could do it yourself. I did see one Cheaper on eBay,seller is in Edinburgh and they are the new type with warranty aswell for £123

Can someone PM me a pic of where it is? think I will be changing mine for the same reasons, anything else I should be looking for or is this the common issue?

remember the new version looks nothing like the old one, only the connectors are the same!

Hmm, that doesn't make it easier to find haha....

Well I presume, if they have updated the whole control module to such an extent, the original must have gained a bad track record, which makes it the prime suspect.

Success

I just used this information and a new Glow Plug Relay/Module from MB of Daytona Beach, Florida and it took only 40 minutes and that included 15 minutes taking off the belly ban to find the bottom nut that fell down when dissembling the bolt closer to the front bumper. The independent repair shop here in Austin, TX USA wanted another $100 + tax for the part and two hours of labor at $110 per hour. It's more than a little crazy that their repair hours book suggested a pro would take two full hours for this job. That, my friends, is padding the books!

And my wife's 2007 E320 Bluetec with 98,000 miles is once again starting perfectly and the glow plug warning light is off.

This is a straightforward, easily accessible fix. Just mind that one bolt.

Agreed

On the picture shown , on the red circle - there are 3 screws you need to remove - just make sure you the correct Tool.

Then its just a matter of removing and replacing . You dont have to do anything else .

I learned the hard way that it was the Glow Plug relay after having replaced all the Glow Plugs , but i do know it wont give me any trouble for the next couple of years.

Symptoms were exactly the same , it would start after 4 - 5 coughs , provided the temp was just above 10C - However , at 1C you'll be lucky to get it started with either bad glow plugs or a bad relay.

Hi Everybody............Can anyone send me a photo showing the exact location of the Glow Plug Relay unit in the W211 3.0 CDI 2007 engine bay. It has recently been diagnosed as faulty by the local MB dealership (who aso replaced all six plugs only 13,000 miles ago) but would like to have a go at doing this one myself both to save money but also out of personal interest (but in truth mainly the former!). Anything else I should know not already covered above? Special tools etc? Some mention of a photo earlier on in this discussion topic but can't find it to look at.

Hi, thanks for all the info provided here. Can I also ask for a picture of the relay location. 2010 3.0 v6. Cheers.
