w211 estate sport
Hello all Im a new member on here so go easy! Have got a e320 Sport Estate. Here it is

I think its a great car with a great spec. But…

Ive got a few issues with it that I will be getting round to in time. But my first issue is the rear supension. I have read about air ride etc but im sure it has springs on the rear but it seems to sit really low. Ive probably jumped the gun here without looking first. But has anyone got any advise on what to look for etc. My first thought was to change the rear shocks and springs. The car is on 150k so im expecting some larger than average running costs!

Anyway thanks for replys in advance and i hope there is some

Antony

All 211 estates have Airbags on the rear coupled with Shock absorbers.
Lovely colour s211 too ;)

Great choice you've made there Antony, they're great all-rounders.

Wouldn't worry too much about it sitting low at the back, W211's in both saloon and estate form seem to sit a little bit low at the back (pretty much every one of my previous nine have anyway!)

nice car and colour mine sits low too no prob though

Cheers, Im really impressed with MB and this car too. Its my first MB. Was looking at the S211 E280 but the tax was nearly £500 for less performance and power? Compared to £300 for the E320. Seemed like an obvious choice for me anyway. The E220 even though Ive never driven one (and im not slating it) just sounds like it would be underpowered, thing is judging by how this 320 goes the 220 may have been ok!

Cheers, thats good to know as Ive read horror stories of £3k repairs for rear suspension repair!

Ok s211 for estate and w211 for saloon. Whoops. Yeah the colour has grown on me. Was after the dark metallic grey but the one I wanted had sold. Ok, airbags with shocks explaines the smooth ride. I do like how low it sits! Just didnt seem a factory height to me.

Thanks for all the replies. I will be around for a while as I plan to keep this car for a good few years!

I bought one a couple of months ago and love it. Mine sat hi at the front and checked springs and found out it had wrong front dampers and the c clip was in the middle and was told it should be at the lowest position for a sport models on the dampers. Got it sorted now

Snap, just bought one on Thursday, '09 68000 miles full history and 7 seater.

That has just confirmed that i really need to tint the rear windows on mine

What's this c clip? Is it at the bottom of the spring and allows you to change the seat position. ?

Whitevanvandal,
If you post up your vin number someone may kindly give you a print out of the cars specs and you will see what suspension you have at the rear ( airmatic or standard). With Airmatic. at the base your your gearchange you may have buttons to press to raise up the car or put it into sport 1 or sport 2 mode, but as normal, handbook explains it all .

Yes if you take the spring off and knock the seat up it reveals a c clip and lots of grooves, mine was sat in the middle one and was told to move it to the lowest one for sport models. If you want a pic pm me your email address and i will send you a pic when i get home later

had my window tinted with someone recommended on well pleased

Hi Harry

Haven't been in Glasgow this long time. Been busy doing a lot of cycling and haven't been contributing much here but have been watching.
Glad to get a car though because I didnt like piling the miles on your SL ;-)

Hahaha too dam right !!! Keep that SL under a blanket over winter.
Hope to see you soon. I'm quite sick of these English people at our curry night now. Your 211 is lovely, a lot of car for the money. The only car better than that is a 212 , maybe.

Wow this is a lively forum!

@230k lovely car there, do love the silver. If only my budget went to 09 and 68k….

@Mc1 Yes tints make a huge difference in my opinion. That picture of front shock adjustment would be good.

@toolman1954 There is only the button for changing between Sport, Comfort and Manual on the gear lever surround, nothing else.

Anyway the vin is WDB2112222B047129 Its a well equipped car (I think) but it suprises me that it has no reversing sensors, but this seems the norm for this model? Strange

Yeah if someone could get a printout for that vin that would be great.

I will get some more pics up soon, but it does seem to sit the same as 230k's silver one.

Thanks again
