My 2005 W211 320cdi Estate is coming up to a D service ( low mileaage car approx 30k) does anyone know where I can get a schedule for such a service and the likely sickener sorry cost.

Thanks Mick

By looking through your service book and the previous history you will see the various maintenance procedures are numbered and due on either a time or mileage basis. By reading through you can work it out.

It does as long as everything has been performed in accordance previously. This is not always the case though

Thanks lads, that's stopped me scratching my head further

A D service is a fairly major one IIRC. Will be by 30k miles.

Depending on rate at which you accumulate mileage on a W211 it seem to be equivalent to a 'B Service'.

I've had D or above (gulp) every second service.

I think the fact that these questions come up so often and the fact that the answers are so fuzzy shows just how poorly thought out and explained the Assyst+ system is.

Assyst plus is very clever. Trouble is on almost every car thats come in to me for the first time the price ive quoted over the phone has been totally different from what the customer has had to pay. I always try to explain on the phone that so many factors need to be right in order to quote correctly. The service light and individual items must have been reset correctly in the past. The individual maintenance procedures must have been adhered to, otherwise assyst plus would have calculated incorrectly. So to owners of all cars with assyst plus: read your service book, work out what needs doing and make sure the cluster is reset properly. When done in this way you cant go wrong in the future!!!!!

My 2005 is currently wanting a D service also, its on 39k and last time (the first service under my ownership) it had everything done, engine oil, gearbox oil etc so I've no idea what it should be needing now over a minor service?

Additional items should only be 2 year items. Pollen filter and brake fluid replacement.

Assyst+ probably is 'very clever'.

But basically from the owner's point of view it's a little pile of confusing smelly bad poo that leaves a bad taste.

Why?

Poor *ambiguous* nomenclature. Fuzzy explanation. No visibility to the customer. Lack of understanding/transparency from dealerships.

Couple that to a service book that's set out to confuse. (Do I have this engine or that engine, that variant or this variant, is that meant to be every two years or every year?).

Assyst+ would really be useful if it:

  • Didn't use 'A' and 'B' when MB use them for something else
  • was actually documented
  • easily accessible with no hidden menus
  • gave a clear and simple to understand list of what it was scheduling
  • and allowed you to see the OBD codes as well.
It fails on all counts IMO.

Oh yes and anybody remember the oil grade / extended service interval discussions from years back?

Just had the oil,oil filter and fuel filter replaced, yet my car is saying it wants a D service in 1200 miles. Any ideas what it wants?

You have to reset the service indicator after the service.

Our S211 2004 year registered is asking for the D service in 30 days. First I've seen today it asking. Must be the first acknowledgement, at 30 days.

I will order the oil, oil filter, air filter, new sump bolt. Just hope ECP will deliver them. The car had a good look over recently so all the above should be just fine.

New Gearbox/torque converter fresh oil. Will also change the brake fluid. With the above service interval.

I had an 'E' recently and I think that it is a 'B' with a cabin and pollen filter.

Doubt I will be getting any parts any time soon!!!!!

That's a good point. They couldn't get me front brake pads and discs, had I wanted.
