w211 dead battery

hi ya dec,

no mate, nothing in the above (20 post).

2003. e. 320 cdi. 4dr saloon. (straight 6 engine model).

i took a picture on my phone (but my phone is a old nokia that i cant conect to the internet or even to the pc to get the picture from it.)

theres a clamp like thing thats bolted to the body & theres a few brown cables to this.

we didnt get drivers side up, but id dout it was there, ...behind pedals...

thanks mate.

It might be best to get a mechanic to look at the problem, hooking up another power supply may do more harm than good if you cant identify the correct place.
The picture is of a left hand drive car so yours may be different.
There doesn’t seem to be anywhere under the bonnet designated to hook up a power supply.

no, we'v looked all over the engine bay. in & around the suspension wells, all the usual place's. ..nothing.

were in ireland, dad as a few friends & we'v family over in england (bham) & he's spoke to merc only mechanics (were he takes the car when he goes over to visit family) & uncle that works in land rover at the engine part of it.. & they said that theres a jump place in the suspension well, but we'v looked, took things out & looked. but i think they may be on about the estate like some else here as said.

but next time i go over to the parents il take out the drivers side carpet (this would be the right hand side drive),

left hand side is passenger yes.

thanks dec mate for your help. once i can get a copy of the picture i took il send it on here to you.

thanks again mate.

Left hand side is passenger side, it’s usually on the passenger side as the pedals are in the way on the driver’s side.

hi dec,
next time i go over to the parents il have another look but i should see this straight away..yes.

i remember that theres a second battery under the bonnet next to the suspension bolts.

if i remove this battery, can i use my jump leads from another battery or donor car to give us a bit of power.?

just a fort.
thanks.

Yes, you should see it straight away, I don’t think you can use the front battery, as far as I know it for starting the car and is not directly linked to the rest of the cars electrics.

ye..ive read that the battery is for other ecu's. & not for use with jump starting.

an another idea i have..im looking for a diagram or picture of the power leads coming from the battery & going..to were.. so i could break into them (the positive side) or put my battery charger to.
was told that the power leads come from the battery & run though the chassis to the front of the car. ..dont no..

thanks dec.

The front mounted AUX battery is only for supporting the main system battery in the boot should charge level drop too low. It has no separate dedicated function.

thanks guys, il check that out dec, (the second video.. i 99% sure we dont have that black box under the carpet).

il talk to you's soon.

What year is the car? On my (facelift) '08, you have to remove the black plastic cover at the back of the underbonnet area (passenger side on a RHD car) to find the positive connection point.

The positive bolt connection point in the 1st video must be what E55BOF is referring to in his post above.

Having read all the posts in this thread decided to take no chances with my 2008 E320cdi battery showing low voltage on testing after 75 mile run. Locals MB dealers will fit me new Mercedes sAGM 95 amp hr battery for £140. Nice surprise as on the Internet a Varta AGM 95ap is £185 delivered and I would need to fit it.

And you get the 2yr warranty from MB :)

Looked on line and think a MB replacement battery is covered for 3 years. Will find out next week when go to get it fitted

Buy a Bosch S5/6 & its 5 yrs...

If it last 3 years I will be happy.
