Hi all
Got my car over the weekend as a Used Approved Mercedes vehicle (not that it means anything lol).
I am very fussy and knowledgeable about my cars and pressed for as many things as I could from them (I have since noticed in the week that has passed whilst the car was being prepped the front left wheel has a tiny scuff - will take that up with them).
I tried to get new brakes all round but they came back suggesting they had 50% left on the rear and 70% left on the front. Having checked myself, that does appear to be accurate although the rear pads look too low for my standard.
I have three options below;
1 - Leave them as be. I know I'm fussy but they are in good condition and not requiring immediate replacement. I have every receipt from new supplied by the cars only owner who was really thorough and after 49K there is no note of any brake work by Mercedes. The car brakes perfect, no juddering etc. No real lips on discs, although the surface of the fronts does seem a little uneven.
2 - Buy new discs and pads from Mercedes. Spoke to my Mercedes dealer who offered 15% discount. Prices are as follows (approximately);
- Front discs around £150 the pair with discount
- Front pads around £50 with discount
- Front pad sensor around £9 with discount
- Rear discs around £90 the pair with discount
- Rear pads around £38 with discount
- Rear pad sensor around £8 with discount
I can fit myself and I am very very thorough.
3 - Buy new discs from Euro Car Parts. I know it's under Mercedes warranty but it's still my car and Pagid are an OEM, albeit not for Mercedes.
Euro have the front discs really cheap (drilled aswell just like the originals) here;
Pagid 54202 Front 330mm Vented Brake Disc MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS E 500 02-08 | eBay
And the rears here;
Pagid 54155 Rear 300mm Vented Brake Disc MERCEDES-BENZ E 500 4MATIC 02-12 | eBay
Remember to double the prices as they are single discs, but if you add them up the front and rear discs will be around £125 delivered which is very, very cheap!
I would however get the pads and the pad sensors from Mercedes directly.
The total saving for option 3 would be near £140.
What do you guys think?
Bit annoyed to even contemplate doing this after one day with the car but I am very fussy and I managed to knock thousands off the cars price.
Advice appreciated!
Cheers
