Only 'graduated' to my first MB 3 weeks ago, a 2005 E 220 Elegance Estate - well worth the wait, absolutely gorgeous.
Only niggle is 1st thing in the morning when the car is unlocked something under the bonnet generates this peculiar sound best described as above. I can't get under the bonnet to locate it as it happens immediately the vehicle is unlocked - any ideas anyone, or is a trip to the local daler ?

Perfectly normal - it's the SBC system coming up to pressure. You'll also hear it occasionally while driving along as well...

BTW - welcome :-)

Very True, and reassuring really as you know the Brakes are Ready To GO.

NO wonder MB have scrapped the SBC brake system...

They haven't - only certain features of it.;)

Its probably the f*rting" noise aspect they changed :D BUT I read somewhere that they had got rid of SBC...

Somewhere in the forum there is a link to a site that fully explains the brake system on the facelifted E. This is the replacement for SBC. A lot of the SBC features are still there but the new system is not fully powered like SBC.

I knew I'd find it if I looked hard enough.

SBC is gone from all cars but the SL. It only remains on that model due to the car being designed to have SBC and the cost of re-engineering to be too great.
All other models have now reverted back to a conventional braking system with a servo.
