hi, I've recently purchased an E W211 MY2004 Avantgarde. It has the Audio 50 head unit and there is an iPod cable in the glovebox. Great I thought, so plugged in my 4th gen iPod and nothing?

The cable is fixed and disappears through the back of the glovebox. There is no AUX in the glovebox or telephone connection.

I've read many threads on this and looked at the different interface kits to see if there is a magic button I need to press etc. But for the life of me I can't understand why this is'nt working / how it works?

I'm now considering an FM transmitter if I can't get this working but would really like to get this working before hand.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you looked in the glovebox on the car door side for a small round blanking cover. If you find it pop it our and you may have an aux socket behind it.

hi brucemillar

Thanks for replying so quickly. Had a good look around and there are no blanks or other forms of holes apart from the rather crude hole where the ipod cable goes through.

thanks

Thanks. When i press the CD soft button it says something like "CD is already in drive". I presume this is because the nav cd is in the drive? The 6 disc cd changer has no discs in currently. When this message comes up there are no other icons that seem to do anything.

thanks

Sorry Sean, I was replying to this on my iPhone and a PM when the battery died.

This will be the Nav CD. There should be a button that specifically says CDC.

Try loading the CD changer with CD's. If they don't play then the CD changer has been cut off and the iPod has been linked in by a dension, that basically tricks the headunit to thinking the iPod is the CD changer.

or something like that, its something I was going to do in my days of having a BMW....

Just a theory thats what could be the issue with your car

Anyway, thats how you will get the iPod to work in your car, or your iPhone.

Thanks, will try this tomorrow and post results.

OK, so put a cd into the cd changer and it works fine. There is no CDC button, the only button is 'CD' icon which you control using the soft key next to the screen (top right). The cd changer discs are controlled from the CD soft key.

Have a suspicion that the car did have comand at some point which may have had the ipod linked into aux but don't know for sure. Also seems that the ipod cable is dead as it doesn't wake up the ipod when you plug it in or show anything on the ipod screen.

????

Thanks

The mercedes ipod kit in the W211 only works with Comand NTG1 as that is the only unit that has an aux input which the ipod kit requires,

As you say the car could have had Comand at some point and the ipod kit was connected to that, this is assuming that the car has an official mercedes ipod kit. It is possible to directly swap the headunit from Audio 50 to Comand NTG1 without installing the nav processor and people do this to get the aux input.

You need to check the cable and the see if it is connected to the official ipod kit control module. www.mercupgrades.com has a fitting guide for the W211 ipod kit which will let you see where the control module will be.
