Try rubber and Vinyl cleaner (I used Autoglym version) after scrubbing for ages on chrome trim that I thought I would have to replace as the water marks would not come off.
I started with the Vinyl cleaner on the rubber trim on the doors and accidentally wiped off the water marks from the chrome trim.
It did the same to the rest of the chrome trim..maybe it will also work on your dark trim. Good luck.
