thanks but I have the opposite problem than this...
"In my W204 c-class the rotary controller in the central armrest does not detect spinning (Pressing, Up, Down, Left and Right work fine) and due to bad design, the'Becker Map Pilot Module' navigation system does not work since the most important input uses rotation from the rotary controller which does not work"
My selector detects spinning but does not detect any movement apart from up and up/left up/right
The connector from the wheel to the operating mechainism is plastic and breaks, it's a well known problem and is fixed by replacing the shaft with an aluminium one - whether you're brave enough to attempt it DIY or buy and get someone else to fit it. Had that on my C220, got a local ICE mob to change it for me.
So this solution works for the joystick too? Cause from what I can see all repair videos mention the scroll wheel and my scrolling action is fine.. so the shaft appears in tact.

I'm a couple of hours drive from Lightwater so bought the replacement aluminium shaft online (IIRC via Ebay and a german site, but can't find it!) and had a local ICE outfit fit it for me, cost a few bob but seeing the procedure on Youtube I figured my sausage fingers would not be able for it. That was a few years ago, and (touch wood) had no problem since.
