W212 - E220
Sorry if this has been covered a hundred times, I had a little search but I was just looking for a specific answer to a probably dumb question.

I was looking to hook an ipod up to my car system, on my last car it had a simple little slot on the dashboard that you popped an SD-Card into and played mp3's from it but on the E220 it's a little bit more complicated.

There is supposed to be an ipod connection in the glovebox, the only thing I can see in there is what looks like a silver metal jack point, pretty much like a 3.5mm jack that you would get on a stereo system to connect your headphones.

Is this the ipod connect, I'm assuming I probably some other piece of kit or cable to plug into this if it a jack-point?

I had a look on this webpage but I don't really see what part has a similar jack plug to suit.

Can anyone please lend a hand here?

Hi and welcome.

What year is your car and does it have the Media Interface (it's an option)?

Hey thanks, my car is a 59 plate (so late 09) and I have no idea if it has the Media Interface or not. Is there a simple way to check this?

I asked the salesman in the dealership if it had any sd-card / usb slots and he told me "it has ipod connection in the glovebox", I stupidly just nodded my head and took that at face value instead of checking at the time.

With the standard Audio 20 you get an aux input in the glovebox so you need this cable to hook up your ipod: 1 METRE 3.5MM PLUG TO PLUG AUX INPUT CABLE FOR IPOD MP3 CAR PLAYER: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Leisure It will allow you to listen to the ipod but not control or charge it.

Media interface is a factory option option and you only get it if you have upgraded to Audio 20 with built in 6 disc changer, Navigation 50 or Comand headunit.

For full ipod connectivity there is also the optional dealer fit ipod kit Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes iPod solutions :: Mercedes iPod kit for new C, new E Class, E Class Coupe (W204/W212/W207)

Hmmm, too many iterations for my liking with this thing. I have no idea. I don't have the 6 disc changer, I know that much.

I need to go in and see the dealer about a roof rack kit anyway, guess I'll pester the life out of him till I get an answer to this as well.
