W215 Cl500 2000

How much does a replacement 'keyless go card' cost?

Gorgeous cars. Love the current shape CL. Think Maffs may have helped influence the decision a little :)

I'm really stuck on what to replace the SL with. Another SL, this CL or a C32 AMG / CLK55  Now where did that poll go....

Tough call. If I was in the up to £23K ish bracket at the minute then I would be considering the CL500 or the C32 AMG.

I think a good test drive of both would be needed but prior to driving I lean slightly to the CL500

I would take the CL500 over the C32 AMG - Its a V8, and the 5.0 V8 is a legendary engine and really shows Mercedes-Benz stamp in the motoring world!

You could also consider SL60 AMG? I also saw an W211 E55 AMG in Germany for 29,000 euros (LHD) but it only had like 25,000 miles with FMBSH!

I have the same V8 in my current car - it's great! The SL60 finished before the '99 facelift and I don't like the older SL look. I've had a LHD car, don't fancy another really - though a 55 Kompressor would be tempting!

Yes - I was even tempted by the 55 Kompressor! Hmmm...There are many cars in that price range - any powerful CLKs? 500CLK? New E500 tickle your fancy? E55 AMG (210) can be had for cheaper, C43 V8, CLK55 AMG and the list goes on!

CLK500 is 2003 onward - 2001 or older for classic insurance.
C43 too old - not keen on the shape though a great car.
W210 wouldn't go there.
CLK55 an option though not overly enamoured with the looks.
The CL is gorgeous and the only reason I'd consider going for a slower / heavier car than the SL.
C32 AMG lighter and faster than the SL, though a V6 not a V8 and again not a great looker.
SL I love though rarer than the CL for a late car in mint condition with the right options.

No offence to owners of these cars, purely my taste!

So I think the SL will be your best choice, which one, the R129 or R230?

Cheaper CL500 maybe? You can find them if you look around. If you wait the CL55 AMG prices might even come down, although the cheaper ones I dont think they have the V8 Kompressor.

R129 - R230s are around £40k for an SL500, also there's a few problems with them that put me off anyway.

I'll enquire a bit more about this CL - if the price is right and it all checks out then we'll see!

about £40, definitely, just got one.

More if there are >8 'keys' issued to the car as they have to reprogramme something,

SG - how does this one compare to yours - anything specific to look for apart from the ABC suspension?

'effin cheap!!! :)

it should have 2 keyless go cards

colour is really nice (i prefer dark colours) although my absolute preference is code 189, like mine :) or black.

Last service interval looks long - i *think* they go for 12 months max

Making a big thing of standard equipment. phone is useful extra (£££ if you want it and its not fitted)

Almost identical to mine (apart from int/ext colours) - as you seem genuinely intersted I will forward a PM I prepared for Greg on the +/- on ownership and why I bought one - it is 3 PM's long (thanks for limiting the length of a PM mods!!!) so be prepared.

I would REALLY endorse having a full check by either a garage or RAC/similar - somebody who will independently warrant any issues.

(never knew I had LED stop lamps???)

ABC is NOT an extra (again *think*)

24 mpg - ROFL

Cheers - will take a look when they're all through :)

I like the colour - my SL is Obsidian black with black leather. Service intervals are 2 years or ASSYST, will have to check the service book to see if any were + miles. ABC was standard on all W215 CLs. I get about 22 mpg cruising at 80 in the SL.

no worries - any q's as I said to Greg just ask - not going to the Varsity match either!

Colour is a personal choice - my pref is dark ext, light int - but as I say, this is only MY choice - news to me on ASSYST so thanks - don't think I'd ever make 2 years though.

Sorry if my last post seemed 'stuttery' - just wrote things down as I read the ad - and I have just got back from a boozy lunch in St Albans, first day back to work see... hic!

No worries - all makes sense having read up a bit about them. ABC seems to be the big let down and noticed you had the pump changed on yours - have already emailed the vendor as to whether this has been done. Engine mounts would need doing to at 62k as these are fluid filled and have a habit of perishing, ATF and MAS change would help as well. I have a feeling it won't make it's reserve, so will see!
