S CLASS 320 CDI
Hi all, I am having problem's with a water leak on my W220 2005 S Class, the water is coming from below the manifolds. I seems to be from somewhere below the fuel filter and behind a black shiny unit.(not sure what it is) The water comes out pretty fast so more like a hose or cracked pipe. Any ideas would be appreciated. I can't see below because of the engine shield but tomorrow I will have the use of my friends ramp so will let every one know the outcome if possible. But keep those ideas coming.

Thanks'
Bill.

Looks like the water is coming from the pipe or plastic box behind the oil cooler, anyone know how difficult it is to change.

Hi and thanks for the reply, it is the straight 6 and there isn't really anything that will show on a picture. A friend said it might be the thermostat housing cracked.
I also have oil in the header tank like a grey sludge, the water drips fairly quickly not like a gasket more like a crack or both might be gone.

Ok... If i remember from my I6 w210 E320 CDI , the thermostat has a plastic hose underneath it bridging the thermostat and the block ... That could be fractured and leaking.
If its that then , easy to replace and get a new thermostat fitted while there

Thanks, but where the leak is from it looks like that the inlet manifold may have to come out,is this a big job to remove?

Put your vin number on
Then go to engine section and try and find the part that you think is leaking .
Could it be the water preheater... But the issue is close to intake manifold i can only think of the EGR cooler ..
Would be helpful if your took a picture somehow .

If it is not the egr cooler, there is a hose that goes from the oil cooler to the side of the block under the inlet manifold. This failed on my E320cdi with the same OM648 engine. I think managed to change from the top, but seem to remember having to remove one of the resonators either on the inlet manifold or the pipe coming from the intercooler. The hose itself was £10 or £15. You'll want some remote hose clamps...

Item 89 on: mbepc.net

It actually comes to £38.00 for a small rubber hose, anyone know where else to source on please.

Sorted, MB gave the wrong quote for a different pipe. Still looking for part number A6481880001 Oil cooler getting a number of prices but all the cheaper one's seem be be put of stock. Any ideas welcome .

Cheer's Bill.

Are you sure its the cooler itself and not the gasket? I've never read of the cooler itself failing. Item 41 on here: part diagram.

Not sure but when the cooler comes off I don't want to find out it's the cooler and not the gasket. Have you ever taken the cooler off/ is it difficult?

Thank's

No, but I know access looks difficult due to the inlet manifold. Luckily when mine leaked in that area it was just the hose. Good luck!

Thanks.
