I noticed that my transmission is leaking oil so i was hoping that it was the sump gasket so i bought all the relevant parts and did an oil change with filter and new gasket only to find that the leak is coming from the electrical connection. I found a post regarding this on benzworld and was prepared to have a go at this myself, when i looked at mine there was no yellowish collar to lock the loom into place so someone has already had a go, oh well the collar comes with the new replacement part that'll be alright then, just undo the 7mm bolt and replace only problem is the 7mm bolt just spins round and doesn't undo, now i really dont know what to do the oil leak is quite bad please someone help me with advice on what i should do, tia Chris

Sounds like whoever was there before has stripped the thread by overtightening the bolt......try undoing the bolt whilst pulling the connector outwards. You dont need to drain the new fluid as you only lose a very small amount when the connector is removed. The bolt only needs to be tightened with light pressure so you might get away without retapping as the connector is a snug fit.

Helicoil needed if thread is stripped. You will need to drop the sump to make sure that no swarf gets into the box.

I would expect you would also need to drop the electro-hydraulic plate/valve block to gain access to the thread if retapping is necessary as i dont think there is enough room to retap in situ.

Do you know if the plate can be dropped through access just by dropping the sump or is it more involved than that?

I've not personally dropped one but i understand that after dropping the sump (and disconnecting the socket plug) it is only a matter of undoing the bolts that hold the plate and it then drops out without anything more to do, you will then have direct access to the stripped thread in the socket which is located on the plate.

Well today was the day, car up in the air, managed to remove the leaky guide bush by turning the bolt and using a screwdriver to force the plug out of the box which was easy enough to do, the threaded part came out with the bolt it wasnt cross threaded just bloody tight, through fear of damaging the connection trying to force the threaded part back in i decided to remove the plate so it was sump off undo several bolts and drop the plate down, I could then counteract the force needed to put the nut back in which was considerable, it went in with a click then followed by a celebratory lap around the workshop waving my arms around shouting yes yes very loudly, reassembled in reverse order and job seems to be a good'un, I'm chuffed to bits that I've sorted that out and It's mainly thanks to links on this site that i had the information needed to tackle it, so thanks chaps and a happy Easter to you all.

Well done:) i have same leak on wifes w203 and thats my next job cant wait!
