w221 David Wren Cars?

If it's any consolation, I did exactly the same with my CLK purchase just under a month ago.

I thought I managed to scope a deal and acquired a verycheap CLK350 V6 and then discovered this exact forum (Thank goodness I did)... I quickly started reading about the engine issues M272.

Unfortunately I lost my deposit (£100, could have been worse and was the price I paid for a future lesson) as the dealer also became didficult and refused to refund, even though I'd never even seen the car and contacted them within around 12 hours...

Anyway, I have to echo the forum! After the advise, I managed to source a CLK500 V8 and am delighted. Everyone's circumstances are different and MPG is important, but for the extra £29 a month/£350 A year on fuel... The V8 is so worth it!

Best of luck with the search regardless!

Hi all, I am 'the friend' lol.

I am thinking of changing from my current W220 and spent last week on a sun lounger in Turkey looking for it's replacement, not that there's anything wrong with mine 86k full history etc...

I decided to look at the Spire CLS (LG58***) in Stanmore, which had quite a few dents (and dust /cobwebs) and after looking closely at the rear access, which was a touch tight, I didn't even go for a test drive.....that's the CLS ruled out.

Next was a trip to David Wren, where I met his son Aaron to view the S350, I must say the car was in excellent condition, gleaming Black paint work and unmarked Grey leather, a truly great looking W221 with just under 40k miles and a FMBSH.
The test drive was just as good, the car felt tight and not as under powered as I thought it might....BUT
Merc had mentioned that there were problems with the early 350 petrol engines, unfortunately I hadn't had time to do my homework fully beforehand and truth be told I wanted to have a good look round a W221 along with having a drive as I'd not had the pleasure before.
After checking the engine number I found the engine was prone to problems and I e-mailed David to let him know.
The reply quite honestly amazed me....

Graham,
I have indeed spoken to Aaron and he informed me it was a complete waste of his time and energy meeting you, and you had no intention of a purchase, and I was annoyed that you misled him into test driving and risking insurance, wasting fuel etc, when you were already armed with all of your ridiculous information that you have obviously gleamed from forums, that are written by idiots for idiots! If I were that stupid to believe forums then I would never buy any car, it's simple good things are never written, bad things are.
You obviously do not deserve a car of such quality but you will purchase what you deserve.
I can guarantee that you wouldn't have tricked me if I were there, but you can take pride in knowing you tricked a 23 year old university student.
David.

I have not completely ruled out an S500, indeed I have narrowed my search down to a W221 so all was not lost on my trip, if anyone knows of any.....

Thanks again to Merc, without who's help I would have probably bought the S350, it may have served me well, however I din't want to take the chance :dk:

Wowsers.

He hasn't done himself any favours with that. If this thread becomes popular, then typing David Wren Cars or Aaron Wren into Google could pull up this thread.

He may lose custom or get a load of time wasters who want to take on the challenge of tricking David Wren into taking a test drive.

Bizarre.

Graham: Until I read the email I was going to suggest going back and trying to do a deal as it sounded like a nice car, but I personally wouldn't to do business with some who writes emails like that...

...unless of course you tricked Aaron into going to the South of France on the test drive. If you did then, David Wren has a point :D

Pmsl:D

It does sound like a good car. If it comes with a decent warranty, it could still be worth trying to do a deal. After all, you never have to see the dealer again once you've bought it and he would be on the back foot if you went back after that email!

In fact, you nearly tricked him into selling the car to you...

PMSL.

Is that David Wren Cars you are talking about there?

The same David Wren Cars who have no idea what customer service means?

I'm surprised David Wren Cars would be like that.

You'd think David Wren Cars would want to sell cars.

Perhaps David Wren Cars should reflect on how David Wren Cars operates so that David Wren Cars can perhaps improve their service.

It's entertaining to read the testimonials on David Wren Car's website. Two completely different people give exact word for word testimonials about David Wren Cars. There is a noxious takeaway in the next town (obviously not David Wren Cars as they sell cars not takeaways) which is uniformly panned on tripadvisor, but amazingly someone called Abdul posted exactly the same review (to the letter) as someone called Emma.

Obviously you need a higher level of service selling cars (although you don't need a hygiene inspection) so I wonder what David Wren Cars are doing?

I did enquire about a warranty, unfortunately they don't do them on cars this old.....

I think David Wren Cars Wessex Business Park Halfway A4 Bath Road Newbury RG20 8NS need to sort there act out , No warranty on a £11,500 car?? Oh Px to clear ??

Well Gavin you saved you friend from a possible car with a load of troubles that could occur but even more than that from a frankly crazy dealer,in todays world people think they can send any old nonsense in a email,Mr Wren is no exception.
I tried to buy some wood flooring some 3 months ago on ebay ordered and payed for it the delivery date settled and one day before delivery they cancelled the sale and sent the money back so I left neutral feedback, the company then threatened me with legal action ,to which I replied bring it on,this then led to them sending me three long emails detailing all the failings of their company, they stopped when I said I had forwarded them to my solicitor as they had not put without prejudice, you wonder how they can keep trading.

I think David Wren Cars Wessex Business Park Halfway A4 Bath Road Newbury RG20 8NS needs to read the attached file and then David Wren Cars Wessex Business Park Halfway A4 Bath Road Newbury RG20 8NS can see who'e the idiot. Perhaps he will realise that David Wren of David Wren Cars is the idiot for NOT reading forums and maybe he should advise his son Aaron Wren of David Wren Cars not to make the same mistake he (David Wren) made

And just incase PB remove it

If you look at Mr. Wren's various internet reviews, they're quite good. Perhaps he was just having an off day.

He doesn't seem to sell much tat, though his stocklist - the few not sold - includes two SL350s, 2003 and 2006. They won't be likely to have any potential problems with the top end either...

I just Googled David Wren Cars.

For now at least, he's safe, because Google's search brings up lots of web pages associated with David Wren Cars, but not this one. If this thread becomes even more popular, and David Wren Cars is mentioned even more, then typing David Wren Cars into Google could bring up this very thead.

PS I didn't think traders could sell cars without a minimum 3-month warranty? I would expect a quality retailer of Mercedes cars, like David Wren Cars, to offer a 12 month warranty.

So did i , Its on page 3:eek:

You need to search 'MBClub David Wren' then it is the top listing and the more people who search on that will help change the search results for 'David Wren'.

It's six months, but not actually a warranty, though, merely your legal rights as a buyer. If a trader is unwilling to meet his or her legal obligations, it will take time and money to enforce your rights, you may not necessarily win your claim in full, and if the trader goes bust before the process is complete, you will get nothing.

There are many not overly honest individuals selling second-hand cars, and I would suspect that David Wren might well dig his heels in and try to wriggle out of any such legal claim.
