Went to c the 221 @ our dealer today. Black 320 CDI SWB: ugly! Especially from the rear. Rear legroom doesn't look very special. Possibly-the-dealer-principal appeared, having brought out a silver 350 LWB "for me" ( ) . Hanging around, unsure whether my Saturday afternoon will be more eventful than I ever hoped, soon me + him are off to Morrison's on a short 15-min trip to refuel (about 5 mins up the road).
Very impressive of course. Engine VERY VERY quiet (compared to what I'm used to anyway). Leather nice. Not 'cold' feeling at all. Ride fine, though unsure if AirMATIC. Some areas of plastic, indicating M-B aren't quite there yet. Doesn't feel as big as you'd expect. Comfortable COMAND control/ergonomics.
Adjusting the side air vents there is the faint sound of a motor just audible. What is this? Is it some other component adjusting due to the manual adjstment made?
Floored it a bit coming back to the dealer. Took a few secs to hitch up its skirt. Not throwing you back in the seat - I guess it's weight that dampens the effect of that.
Overall not exactly bowling me over, but a very nice experience. LWB definitely improves the look of the car. It also very easily looks underwheeled, though the 350 only has 17s.
FY06 XLD if anyone sees it round the London area (mods may delete this number-plate if they so wish).
