want to buy E class...any advice?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for an E-class diesel CDI mercedes Avant Garde not more than 6 years old. Want to spend up to £10,000. Any particular thing I need to look out for in these cars?
Just great to hear from someone who has experience with this range.

I had a 2003 E240 Avantgarde from new until last month, I did 120k miles in it over the 6 years and loved it to bits. The only big issue I had was with rather weak front suspension. It was in a few more times than I would expect for balljoint replacements and new track rod ends. I also had a front spring break while the car was sitting in a hotel car park and the dealer I took it to for repair made a right ar*e of replacement. I wouldn't let that put me off buying another one though. The only other thing I had to get replaced was the indicator stalk as the windscreen wipers would go off when I indicated, wasn't an expensive repair. Best car I ever owned.

So long as it has FMBSH you will be ok, had mine for 3yrs nearly and love it!

Had my 2006 S211 for two years and so far (touching wood!!!) have had no major issues! Masses of space, superbly comfortable and seems to be very well built. To sum up, I love the car and would buy another!

I'm assuming (6 years or younger) you want a W211.

There are lots of nice W210's out there and I think mine is superb.

Rust is a problem on W210's though, so you'll really need FMBSH to have it rectified under warranty (plenty of threads on this forum on the subject) and injectors are costly to replace (but worth it IMO).

I do a fair mileage in my Sprinter but am never too tired to jump into the W210.

£10k will get you an 06 plate, 180,000 miler on Auto Trader!!! Otherwise, you should be able to get a pretty good 03/53 plater for that sort of money with good spec, lowish mileage, Full SH etc etc

Personally, I am looking at a 320CDi in Avantgarde spec with COMAND and Panoramic roof and my budget is similar if not a little more.
