Hello,

After much fiddling, measuring and help from users of this forum I have concluded that mine is faulty. Does anyone have one they would be prepared to sell at non-MB prices?
It is for a W124 300E-24 with a 104.980 engine.

Failing that does anyone know of a company who can repair / recondition these things?

Thanks!

Andrzej

Thanks grober, I'll give them a call... hopefully they'll be flexible on the price, I don't suppose my high mileage W124 is worth that much more!

I would call on your local Merc delaer and (hopefully) come away wth a list of part numbers that you can use (go in with both your VIN/enginr mumber combo and also the current EZL part number fitted and get them to search both ways) - these old parts were often superceded several times with "equivalent" parts.

Try Dronsfield - online - and then a quick yell.com breakers search using the part number list (and based on the car model) will probably bear fruit.

You will also need the heatsink compound (cheap from the dealer) when you come to fit the new one - they can burn out quickly if not bedded correctly!

May also be worth searching the (USA) Mercedesshop forum as the burning out problem was more widespread in the hotter parts of the USA and so you should be able to access posts where others have researched equiv part numbers by searching using yours.

Good luck!

As dieselman said on another thread its usually the output transistor that fails. With time the heatsink compound between the unit and body dries out and the unit over heats. If you or a friend have any electronic skills you could try a home repair but that would probably mean that BBA REMAN would refuse to take it back as an exchange unit! Its often difficult to identify the transistors inside these units anyway without a circuit diagram.

Still no luck... Just missed one at Dronsfields, bba-reman don't fix these particular ones anymore and nor do ecuclinic. No luck with breakers either. I have a saved search in eBay as well as a wnated post - hopefully something will turn up soon. I've sent mine off to a company in Dorset called Autotek as they were willing to take it on. Mot and tax runs out at the end of the month too! Oh bugger...

I just did a search for Autotek to get their tel number as they'll be receiving my unit today and I saw a link to a Lexus forum, someone had had a bad experience with these guys... looking at your link to sender.de I get the impression that they are going to be a better bet. After all the Bosch technical documentation is going to be german anyway...!

Fixed shortly after my previous post...!

Realised I never posted a conclusion to all of this. In case it helps anyone else I eventually sourced an EZL unit from Dronsfields.
Simple fit but used lots of heat transfer paste.
Engine started first time!

Since then I've had odd idling problems which I've yet to begin to investigate. Very much an intermitent problem which will no doubt make it difficult to diagnose.
