Hi.
I'm trying to get hold of an old key for the reason mine has seen better days albeit many years ago.
I was quoted over £800 by my local main stealer for a coded replacement however I am happy to just transfer the guts from my key into a better housing (as they keep falling out of my key anyway. And I can't bear to wrap it in selotape)

Thought perhaps someone may have an old key possibly from a donor car that has long since passed on.

Pm me if you can help.
Dan

Last RCL remote key I bought for a W124 was £190. Where is £800 coming from?

Apparently it has to be ordered from Germany. It's laser cut and coded to my car in the factory. Then has to be coded into the ecu here which can take several hours on diagnostic!

I laughed and asked if I had a rather naughty word tatood on my forehead before settling for a new battery for said key lol.

I got the distinct impression it was a rip off, however I expected better from a well respected main stealer. (only one in Carlisle, without naming and shaming)

Hence a second hand fob in reasonable condition will suffice for now :0)

I should have one at home,I`ll search tonight and if I find it,you can have it

The cost is about £220 altogether - I just got one a few months ago, so the dealer is talking complete nonsense. yes, they come from Germany - coding takes a few minutes

As above, it does not cost £800 for a new key and it does not take several hours to code - ask another dealer or someone else in the spares department :)

Managed to find out the truth with my local stealer.
Turns out the guy quoting £800 has been dismissed after he managed to get a few other owners to part with silly money and lining his pockets.
Price is in fact £190 and he would code for free.

Cheers dw124. If you can find it that would be great.

Thanks again guys

ivr got mine from GFP1 in my bag as although its infra red for the traffic light doors that only GFP1 had id like to get the metal key bit changed to fit GFP2 as i find it hard turning the normal sized keys

i tried explaining that to MB Cambridge and he could not grasp that all i wanted was the metal key bit changing not the infra red bit

he kept saying "but your car does not have the infra red system"

I've noticed that main dealer parts guys seem to find logic very hard to grasp lol.

I must have spent half an hour trying to convince the guy that the batteries I bought two months ago were flat. And to let me try a new set.
He was insistent that they last at least a year. And that my key was faulty.
Eventually I got a little upset and he backed down; conceding that I had in face purchased faulty batteries from him. And that my key worked perfectly with new ones.

They really can be annoying.

On a related note though. A mate informed me that the shoe repair folk "timsons" can now supply chipped mb keys :0)
May be of use to you GFP
