Right i'm a bit confused but what i believe i'm looking for is some sort of throttle control module which is attached to the throttle body on a w124 320E. The symptoms of the car are that it surges of its own accord, so if for example you are braking too a stop the car will start to accelerate on its own, quite dangerous if you are not prepared for it.

The mechanic i use has said that its the throttle control module (or words to that affect  ) which is on the throttle body so if anyone has one please get in touch.

Just to clarify it's the 3.2 straight six 24 valve.

Thanks

Nic

There is a fuel regulator valve, small barrel shaped thing with fuel pipes going in and out of it. As far as i can see there is no control unit on the throttle body.
If you give me your chassis no i can confirm.

I think he may be referring to the throttle actuator which forms part of the electronic throttle/ idle actuator/cruise control. http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/M104WireHarness Its all one unit AFAIK and unless you are prepared to do a DIY rebuild ( details here for a v12 -which has 2! http://v12uberalles.com/throttle_actuator_rewire.htm ) NOT easy. you have to replace the entire unit. The internal wiring insulation can breakdown with heat or the potentiometers can go awol http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_asr.html For most people replacement is the only answer assuming this is the problem you are refering to. Make sure its not just a dirty/sticky throttle plate/ throat!

Just rung him now and best way of discribing it is that on the throttle body there is an electronic part which has burnt, can't get a part number off my mechanic till thursday. Apparently buying a complete throttle body would solve this problem?

That sounds spot on! Thank you :)

Amazingly expensive isn't it? Any second hand units around?

Problem is that any second hand ones may suffer from the same problems so unless you are sure of the provenance ( could be a replacement unit for example ) or very cheap not worth the risk.

I guess so but when the part is worth as much as the car it's worth the risk of a second hand part at a reasonable price, other than that there will be another w124 being broken.

Does your car have cruise or not? Different parts which cost a whole lot more if you have.

Cruise and non cruise will have different throttle bodies, and they are NOT interchangable.

That was my point in asking in #10. Somewhere I think I have a non-cruise body which is a shame cos I know it's not compatible.

Which looked like this when it was stripped it a few years ago......... before recon.

Mattc has a cruise throttle body spare but he does not know this. Might be worth a shout to see if he wants to release it. It is a known good item.

Part number 000 141 5725 apparently.
