Anyone else have experience of this? When I open and close the boot I can hear what sounds like water sloshing around inside. Have no idea how it got there

Double check all the drain wholes are clear and not clogged up with gunk, it is a common problem on all cars you can clear them normall with a small screwdriver

Cheers guys, There appears to be a thin drain hole at the bottom centre of the bootlid abut 4" across. This is the only one I can find anyway. It has a plastic piece of mesh in there which is very dirty and wet (although the sloshing around has now stopped so the water did drain out eventually). Should this be there? Can I just remove it? It can't be good having standing water just sat in the lid for a couple of days.

That bit of mesh may be something Mercedes has put in there from the factory but any small bits of dirt and grit will obviously block it up over time and the water takes longer to drain.

This can of course caused corrosion over a long period of time and this is why you can then get something like your bootlid rust from the inside out.

Funnily enough this is a common MK4 golf problem where VW was a little bit too mad with waxoyl or similar when building the rear hatch back and they block all the drainholes. Years later people have found their galvanised MK4 Golf boot hatch rusting from the inside out.

Like I said previously common problem but one that you can easily fix just by making sure all your drain holes are clear, this includes your doors etc and of course if you have a sunroof make sure they are clear unless you want a puddle in the car.... This is all part of a cars servicing schedule not that your average technicion would ever bother!

Cheers for the responses guys. Gave the drain hole a clean out with the end of a small screwdriver and all sorted now :thumb:
