Next week I'll finally be able to pickup my new car (s212).
With the winter closing in, I was wondering what kind of protection coating a new car gets from the factory.
Do I give my new car in a few weeks a good wax treatment in preparation for the winter or should I wait because the new car already received a good protection from the factory?

Do you believe the factory - ??? You know a good waxing will not do any harm, and you're certain she's protected!

As above. Another layer of wax won't do no harm.

Why waste time with foreplay??

Get the Hammerite out now!

Do not purchase any protection kits from the dealer, a waste of money. Either save it or ask a detailer to seal the car for winter :)

Strip those contaminants and start fresh:)

If you want cheap and cheerful get a tub of fk1000p, epic durability for peanuts!

spend the rest of your money on iron x, youll need it to remove the transportation contaminants:)

what would you recommend for putting on a new car without stripping off the dealer supplied wax?
just for added winter protection and a nice shine.

Most ph neutral snow foams and shampoos wont strip off wax. But what do you mean by dealer wax. Are you talking about transportation wax. Or a prep done by the garage like superguard? If so I doubt it will be on the paint very long as all garages seem to fail at prepping paintwork for lsp's big time.

the car has just come out of the showroom brand new 48 hours ago all nice and shiny, it hasnt been stargarded, just a standard dealers preparation (MB)
was just wondering what is the best and easiest to put straight on top
for appearance and protection, thanks?

The dealer probaly uses a bit of Mr Sheen to help wipe the dust off if you didnt pay extra through the nose for some miracle paint protection rubbish.

Then I most definitely would strip it all down and start again! The products they use wont hold in that 'new car feel' for long.

Degrease the whole car, give it a good wash, clay it then give it a good wipedown with ipa. Then buy yourself a good pre wax cleaner and good quality wax at your choice.

Or bring it to me and ill make it look awesome for 25,000 miles:)

But seriously when I do a new car protection detail this is what I do:

Wheels are cleaned using a non acidic wheel gel, agitated using various brushes and then rinsed.
Arches and tyres are degreased, agitated and rinsed.
Lower half of car is degreased.
Car is treated to a snow foam bath and left to dwell.
Shuts, gaps, grilles and vents are agitated using various brushes.
Car is treated for tar spots.
Car is then rinsed off.
Car is then washed using a PH neutral shampoo and the two bucket method.
Car is then treated to a full clay bar system for paint, glass and wheels.
Car is further treated for caustic compounds in the paint via a cleaner fluid.
Car is then rewashed using a PH neutral shampoo and the two bucket method.
Car is then dried using 70/30 towels and warm air blower to remove all water from shuts, gaps, grilles and vents.
Car is then given single stage correction to remove light marring and swirls to improve gloss depth and clarity.
Car then has glaze oils machined onto paint to improve glass and wet look.
Car is treated to a pre wax cleaner to help bonding of protection.
Car is then treated to a 7 stage protection sealant.
Wheels are also pre wax cleaned and two coats of high grade wheel wax.
Exterior plastics dressed and resealed.
Rubber seals are resealed to prevent wear.
Windows are polished inside and out.
Tyres are dressed to a matte finish.
Exhaust tips are polished and sealed.
All plastics are washed, treated and sealed in the interior.
All leather is shampooed and conditioned.
All upholstery is steam cleaned.

Thanks a lot all for the feedback.
Especially 'Detailed' lives up to his nickname for the ... euh... detailed reply :thumb:

I think I'll go shopping this weekend for some good products to give my new car a warm welcome next week.

The dealer finish will offer no protection what so ever, its just a showroom shine!

Remove all traces of the rubbish the dealer would have put on with a quality tfr, then the usual polish and plenty of coats of wax, i use auto glym hd wax or the autosmart one, both very good, the autosmart one is half the price...
