I am having a problem with brakes on my W168 A160, following refit of refurbished alloys.

When I went to collect the car, released the handbrake, put it in reverse, the car wouldn't move ... okay, put back in parked, tried to pull the handbrake up - it won't go up. As I was still at the Wheel Clinic, asked they guys to look at it - they raise the car and just rotated the rear wheels, tried the handbrake - everything's fine. Drove away, tested brakes - no problem. Parked the car, haven't used it for four days. Got in, handbrake down, reverse - hard jerk, wouldn't just roll, had to tap accelerator pedal, the rear of the car went up as if going over an obstacle, few more jerks and screeching sound. Strange hissing noise when moving slowly / parking (with brakes slightly depressed). Once driving seems OK. On the road once it felt like car pulled slightly to the right, when braking (could have been a pothole though).

I've never experienced something like that and am very concerned. Do I need new drums, disks, pads etc or what? Ideally I would have taken the car to Olly at PCS, but not sure if it is safe enough to go on a long journey? :dk:

It sounds like the parking brake is seized on.

Can really be driven like this.

Well, based on recommendations here, and because it wasn't safe to drive a long distance with unknown brakes fault, I took the car to PJ Hodge & Sons here in Northampton. I must say I'm really glad I did - really nice guys, courteous and professional service, explained everything to me, and despite my suggestion to replace parts told me there's no need to! Spend considerably less than expected and result is excellent. :thumb:

Couldn't have asked for more! :bannana:
