Weird Mini driver

I don't normally get involved in anything on the road (having grown out of road rage in my late 20s), but Saturday morning yielded one of the weirdest encounters I've had in a while.

I was on a 40mph dual carriageway in mild traffic minding my own business and coming up to a big intersection with traffic lights where I kept passing and being repassed by a 2009 Mini in the ebb and flow of the different lanes. For some reason I was aware of the driver and female passenger staring at me, but not in a particularly good way.

As it happened we ended up adjacent to each other about 2 cars back from the red light and he sounded his horn to get my attention. I wound my passenger window down and he proceeded to yell about why try and make a nice car look like something it isn't ... get a real AMG if you want one etc. etc.

I was a bit talen aback as a) I wasn't expecting the abuse and b) it is a real AMG. It is debadged, but so what!

Anyway we set off and I ended up in the outside lane with nothing ahead as it went to the national speed limit, I looked behind and there was the Mini glued to by rear bumper.

Now 10 years ago I would have just wasted him, but I decided I wanted the muppet in front of me rather than behind me so as soon as I could I pulled in and let him by to be confronted by his passenger giving me a w4nker sign out of her open window!

Classy! Should have wasted him.. ah well! Sensible is all very well, but bloody frustrating! :D Funny thing is I have never liked the way most of the new Minis are driven.... it is like the drivers have something to prove!

Nice story.

Last Sunday I was travelling in one of my old cars and got overtaken on a roundabout by a man in a Nasty Astra. A bit later on I spotted an opportunity to pass him and a couple of other cars so overtook, at which point he indicated I should stop for some ground coffee... :D

Probably both members of the Gareth Hunt fan club .

It's pretty obvious who has significant deficiency issues. Your restraint was commendable and the frustration from those tossers was because you didn't give them what they wanted. If they'd known anything about cars and wound down their windows - they would have heard the proof.

I am surprised you didn't laugh at the first comment though.

There is definitely something odd about male mini drivers. I remember once I had a BMW Alpina B10 V8 (350BHP). It looks quite tarty and there aren't many - so I guess people assume it is dressed up to be something it isn't.

I once started to overtake a Mini Cooper S in a 30mph limit which was doing 20mph on a long straight road - which didn't stand out at first. Then as I started, the guy started to accelerate hard.

As I'd already started and was side by side with it, I hit the loud pedal and nailed his ass to the wall. He didn't look so smug in the rear view mirror while I was laughing.

Even if yours wasn't an AMG, how can someone, in a pretend Mini, get uptight about someone else's pretend car?
