Well there goes my license.. and hello skyrocketted insurance

So i was on the freeway.. it was an empty freeway at 11pm.. no cars.. so i was pushing about 90.. when i passed a highway patrol car.. so he stops me.. and asks me if i have any warrents, etc.. i tell him im on probation.. he says your on probation and your going 90.. "your done kid" writes up a ticket saying 107 on a 65 zone.. so im guessing automatic 500$ fine, and a 6 month license suspension + skyrocketed insurance fees =/ the cop was a total ass too.. don't feel like describing.. but ughhhh! well theres my rant.. now the question is am i still going to be stupid and drive without a license?

makes no sense at all ..

Police can only charge you at the speed you were travelling at, not the speed you were travelling at plus some multiple since you are young.

Not the kind of arbitrary law you have in the USA

The different speed is interesting - in the UK I'd advise talking to a lawyer. Do US police cars have video? Are they required to record/retain video? Any established court precedent for a 'my word against yours' scenario?

Overall though if probation is a factor in US road crimes, if you're 18 and in a merc 280, and you were doing 90 in a 65 - that's almost 40% over the speed limit, if you're the kind of person who thinks driving without a license is a serious consideration (in the UK that would also negate your insurance as well) well, I can kind of see why the cop wanted you off the road for 6 months...

If the officer puts down 107 then he'll need to prove it if you contest the offence.

He may well struggle to provide such evidence (depending on what kind of evidence is required in your state).

As others have said though, dont drive on a ban unless you are prepared to acept the consequences of getting caught doing so.

Some state don't require car insurance....not sure about CA. But is OP 100% sure he never went over 90 mph as he PASSED the Highway Patrol ( not the most observant either {due care and attention springs to mind})

I know someone who put diesel in his car by mistake, half a tank only, then filled up with petrol, he reckoned it had never went so well & the diesel had cleaned out his engine. Let us know if you find the same please?

Yeah sure, why not-It's no big deal. Who needs a license anyway? I'm sure the authorities won't mind, especially when you tell them you did 90 and weren't even a weeny but scared!
