- B200 Turbo
I have always liked Mercedes and having been very impressed with a new Viano I bought a few years ago for the business and the B200 Turbo family car I have now I thought it was time for some self indulgent fun with the 3 pointed star marque.
So I set off to Leeds, walked through the showroom doors and there it was, sitting proudly marked out by AMG marketing banners, the jewel that is in the Mercedes crown.
Here you can see the exquisite carbon fibre wing mirrors contrasting beautifuly against the gleaming red paint work.
Easing myself into the cockpit the dials flash on, showing just 400 miles on the clock,
To the left the centre console makes use of more carbon fibre as well as polished and brushed stainless steel that is simply a work of art.
A close up of that inviting, glowing starter button.
Despite not being willing to budge on the £180,000 price tag the salesman was more than courteous and did offer to throw in some AMG branded picnic hampers. We had just sat down to go through the paper work formalities when my mobile rang. It was the bodyshop, telling me that Mercedes Germany had decided not to honour the rust warranty on my B class (some rust spots had appeared on the lower part of the tailgate).
To cut a long story short I left a rather red faced sales exec. desperately trying to persuade me to let him phone the bodyshop back as they "must have made a mistake".
I just asked him, "how much would replacement SLS panels cost when they start to rust through and Mercedes deny all responsibility of these too?"
On that note I proceeded down the A6110 to the Aston Martin garage where I was presented with these two.
A DBS...
...and a V12 Vantage, which although 1 year old offers a £70,000 saving over the SLS!
While deliberating I wondered around the corner and instantly dismissed all that I had seen...
Something about this just knocked the spots of all the others and for the same price as the SLS, it just seemed to be in a whole different league.
Entering through the two sets of large double glass fronted doors I was greeted by a very well presented lady who showed me the way to the main showroom.
The detailings are all painted with absolute precision onto the car. No stickers here!
Stunning, however it was this once in a life time opportunity that eventually got me putting a deposit down...
...well we can all dream can't we.
