This is what I got for mine...
Mercedes-Benz E-Class (99-03) Saloon 320 CDi Avantgarde 4dr Saloon 4dr
Superb engineering, a fine drive, beautiful interiors. Diesel engines better than previous models', and extra safety kit has been added. But 2.0-litre petrol is underpowered and manual 'box are best avoided.
Watch for rust. High milers need expensive engine repairs. Front suspension needs rebushing after 60k miles
After 105000 miles, my bonnet is stonechipped very badly but its the suspension thats really starting to annoy.
My rear subframe bushes are creaking badly. The front creaks when I go backwards and forwards so the front wishbones will need doing too. Better get the ball joints, drop link bushes and whatever else looks tired at the same time. Its also due for a B service in a few thousand miles time.
Money is tighter these days so I'm contemplating having a go myself - trouble is being a computer science graduate I've never had to do any "hard" work - my palms bruise if I try to overtighten a screw!!!
I really wish I leased my car as opposed to buying it. Then I wouldn't worry about using Mobil-1, the stonechips, letting the engine warm up before flooring it and giving the turbo time to spin down before switching off.
Rant over. Thanks for listening.
PS: I'm waiting for Lexus to make a large diesel engined automatic.
