Im still awaiting an offer for my wrecked C180, meanwhile I have been doing some research:

C200 V-REG Manual

+ Its young
- Its a manual
- A classic. 101k

Or:

C200 R-REG Auto Its a little older (1997)

+ Its black,
+ Elegance
- 108k.

Both high-ish mileages but appear to be nice for my expected budget of 2k-2.5k ish

Opinions, or spotted any nicer ones?

Wonder what the cloth looks like on the elegance, the classic looks a bit irritating! Otherwise both cars have a similar spec with the exception of automatic and colour.

If it were me buying I probably wouldn't even consider the manual one.

Yeah Im not, although I was/am tempted by the age of it.

second one, alloys, auto, the other one doesnt compare...

I have a set of Elegance alloys in my shed still, + it has rear electric windows unlike most classics

The 2nd one, dodgy wiper or the dealer trying to show it has 1 wiper?

At 7 to 10 years old forget about age and go for condition and history.

I'm considering selling mine in the next months, but looking for nearer 4k for it, don't know if it's what you're after? RHD is beginning to tick me off now!

Im gonna struggle to get £2600 mate otherwise I would :)

Got a mortage now and cashflow isnt what it once was :(

I`d go for the second one. It looks the same colour as mine, Emerald Black ( still looks blue to me!) and will have plain grey seats.

Wouldnt want a manual Mercedes!!

that could well be stuck, best to ask him!

You fancy selling your elegance alloys? Im after a cheap set for my C220 diesel...

If I dont need them for my new motor yes, watch this space

I'd go for the 2nd one. A manual Merc saloon just doesn't seem right. Will also be easier to sell on. Plus it's not silver :p

Black is better. Auto is better. Age difference is immaterial. If the black one meets the 'ring of confidence' test then go for it.
Mind you, it won't really be yours until you've added all those bits you pinched off the old one...:)

Most of the parts are going on eBay TBH, as they were facelift-upgrades,

They will fund a new Avantgard grill + the spraying of my C43 bumpers.

How about these two?, both up for £2995 but obviosuly room for negotiation... otherwise you may need to sell some more stuff on ebay ;)

As stated above, condition is definitely the thing ot look out for, but I'm sure a 1998 model could be tempting.

1998 S Reg MERCEDES-BENZ C180 Esprit, Auto, FSH, 130k miles, Black (including 1 yr warranty apparantly)

Not a fan of the 1st, only C180, want at least a C200

That 2nd one though, very nice!

I just had a quick look for C230k models but they don't seem to be below £4k for a facelift.

I prefered the second one too!. I don't think it mentioned the mileage on that one though - did it?. I guess pre-facelfit / facelift isn't an issue? Which of the following would you also consider:

C220
C230 K
C240 (almost impossible at that price though?)
C280 (quite a few early ones 1995/1996 ish about, quite often with nice specs including leather)

Deffo want facelift!

Gotta worry about insurance too, no NCB now :(

Just found out how much Im getting from my old car:

£2,440! - £100 Excess

So, £2,340 which I think is a great price :)

The whole thing may turn out to be a blessing
