What do you guys think of these?

Sounds great if you ask me - sure you didn't do it on purpose? :p

That black C200 Sport for £2995 seems like a bargain IMO - knock a couple of hundred off and you've upgraded to a facelift, C200 Sport model with air con for next to nothing!

Hope it all works out ok :)

Well done, not a bad result. Have you tried squeezing them a bit more or is that their revised offer. I can understand you feeling 'guilty' as there isn't a third party involved.

Definitely agree on the last car I posted, the C200 looks good. Wonder how much mileage & what condition it's in.

That's whate everyone said to me when I wrote off my Civic, got much more than it was worth & I was looking to change at the time :)

That was 1st offer by them, was a bit gobsmacked as I was expecting under 2k.

Is it worth calling them? I dont wanna push my luck!

Never take there first offer, never.

I did but I was desperate and they offered quite a bit more than I expected, the (independent) assessor said that they'd not bust the ceiling on the glasses value anyway.

I could have pushed them for a better offer but I was renting a car out of my own pocket and the cost of short-term rental would quickly eat into any increase in settlement. I had a cheque in my hand 2 weeks after the accident anyway! New car 2 weeks after that...

...........I have heard of people rejecting an offer and then being offered less.........

For a 1995 C180 £2400 is a good offer, can they really reject an orignal offer?

I was thinking of writing to them once I had the chq?

Anyone with a Glass guide please check the value of it?

True, the loss assessors job isn't just to value your car but to come up with a 'fair' offer. They act in the interest of the insurance company NOT yours. In most cases the intial offer is the lowest that they feel your are likely to accept. For this type of value claim you should be able to squeeze another £100-£200.

Push the condition of the vehicle, the fact that you weren't looking to change, any work recently done on the car, service, MOT, Tax Disc (unless they're letting you claim this back) etc.

Definitely call write / fax them a letter to say you are disappointed with their initial offer in light of a number of points... then list the points as above. Also mention how much similar cars are going for....

Have they given you the offer in writing? If so they should not be in a position to retrospectively lower the offer. It is unlikely to have the offer increased once they have issued the cheque (they incurr admin costs in doing this). You need to dispute their offer BEFORE you get the cheque.

IF their offer is not in writing ask for it, then write a response. In fairness it's probably a sensible / fair offer but hopefully someone can confirm that through Glass's guide...

Thanks guys,

no the offer was over the phone, I am tempted to write in asking for another £100 or so, except I dont fancy pushing my luck!

Tricky one...

Very good offer Id say.I only got £2k trade in for my old car and he is still trying to sell it now at £2400.

Still no harm in trying for an extra £100. They want to settle this quickly so they don't pay storage fees etc.

Won't hurt for an extra £50 or £100...

Good luck, call them first thing tomorrow!

You want to give this some thought,

Your happy with the offer, there is a car out there that you quite like.

If you push for another £50 - £100 the car you like might get sold, you are going to be thinking about whether the insurance company might, or might not pay out the extra money. Is it worth the hassle? If the answer is yes, then go for it. If your indecisive then take the money and get the car you like.

Good luck on the decision,
John

I agree with John here.

Who said all insurance companies are robbing ........
If they'd offered you under £2K then you might be faced with having to fight it, everyone knows that what you've been offered is more than a fair price (just look at how much newer/better specced models are going for).

IMO it's one of those situations where you can be thankful for everything - ie, no one was hurt, no prosecutions, you get a very reasonable offer for your old car and are back in a newer/nicer car for virtually no expense.

Could have gone a lot worse :)

Called them up to question/ask for more :)

And he ran through what I had been offered already £2540 - £100 = £2440.

Which is £100 more than yesterday???

After that I said, ah no problem then...

mmm

£2540 is fine by me!
