What does E320 mean?

I'm just glad my C180 is actually a 1.8ltr! Would drive me nuts if the number didn't match the size...

I'M thinking of de-badging. Are they dowl fitted or stuck on ?

How do you remove , and will it leave a mark / holes ?

Mine is debadged and has no holes.

I'm glad our C320 is a 3.2 as is our S Class & ML :D

As stated earlier in the thread a trend began were the badges were changed to reflect the suggested power of the engine, hence the slightly detuned 2.5 BMW 323 and the C240 W203 which was actually a 2.6

And my car has 300E-24 on the boot lid..............says everything I would like it to say. 3ltr, injected with 24 valves. Ohhh yeah bring it on :rock::bannana::bannana:

From Memory

Didn't BMW start this in the early eighties with the 3 series? 318 and 320, either both 2 litre or both 1800s, the nomenclature was to differentiate the power outputs - like I said this is from memory but pretty sure it started with the 3 series - unless anyone knows better?

It bugged me then and it bugs me now - the manufacturers bang on about it differentiating models (sounds like B.S. to me) something like L, GL, GLS (in Ford speak)

Mike

Just remembered all 3 cars I've owned with such numbers have been "correct" must be my subconscious at work

Thanks for explaining that.

I thought it had something do with engine size/power. Not the mass of the thing.

So my E class would be 214cdi (2 ton 140bhp). Makes good sense that.

110bhp in a 3 ton vehicle must be terminally slow
Myu Sprinter is a 213 which has the same engine as 209, 211, or 215

Our 213 is the 4 cylinder 2148cc turbo engine but our previous vehicle was the 212 Sprinter with the 5 cylinder 2.7 litre engine. Confused?? :D

Most of the numbers I have posted refer to the very latest new shaped Sprinter.

Regards
John

You could also get a 320i bmw and 520i with a 2.2 6 cylinder engine.

I had a Z3 with a 2.2i, but you could get a Z3 with a 2.0

all very confusing and if buying second hand could be difficult
