2005 W215 CL500.
Travelling behind a police car I noticed one of his brake lights was not working. Thought nothing of it and would not have remembered it if the following had not happened.

I overtook him, safely and legitimately. A mile down the road I came upon slower traffic and had to dab my brakes. Blues and twos, I was pulled in. Reason: my offside brake light was inoperative.

You floored it tearing off like a scalded cat and they never saw you again.....?

you mentioned his lights and he did you for being uncoperative.

You said, I'll fix mine if you fix yours! And he did you for being cheeky?! :D

You dissed the hoe he was with and popped a cap in his ass??

I will reveal what happened later to-day. I am interested in what folk think should have happened.

I think from moral stand point he should have told you to get it fixed and laughed and joked about it and sent you on your way.........But from legal stand point two wrongs dont make a right and nothing else changes fact you were breaking the law.....I think he did nothing.....

It is my understanding that each and every time a patrol car goes out it has to be checked. If this didn't happen they can't give you a ticket and if his car was 'unroadworthy' when he pulled you I guess the same would apply. Thing is though did you have the balls to say anything?:D

Just to add a little bit more. I carry spare lamps all the time.

I guess the bulb could have gone after both of you starting driving your cars ?

I am interested in the outcome though !! :D

Did you give him a bulb and the two of you fixed your cars on the spot?? :D

You only had one bulb of the type that would fit both cars so you gave it to him to fix his and he then gave you a ticket:D

Well first thing is if you were in your MB and he was in a traffic car both of you should have known you had a bulb out by the warning on the dash.

However if he had stopped me I would have politely said thank you officer I did not realise however I do have a spare bulb and am quite prepared to drive to a safe locaion and change it will that be OK.

I would also have then pointed out he too had a bulb out and did he not have a warning light on his dash to tell him so? Then I would offer if he would like to accompany me to the safe location I would see if I had a bulb that may fix his problem too.

Most traffic cops do have a sense of humour (not sure about Ireland though) but I would think no tickets were issued. If there were then I would definitely be going to court with it depending upon what other facts were involved in the stop.

A mate of mine had pretty much that situation a number of years ago when stopped for an inoperative rear light on his motorbike .

When the cop pointed out the faulty tail lamp , my mate said ' What , just like that faulty sidelight on your police car ? '

The reply was 'Point taken' and my mate was sent on his way by a slightly embarrassed cop .

i think you fixed his bulb for him aswell as your own and you both went on your way.

About 5 years ago I was spoken to quite forcibly at Manchester Airport by a traffic warden and told to move from the drop off area where I was waiting to pick up (yes - I know - but the collection area was closed for road works).

He was very annoyed to find me stopping again, 100 yards down the ramp, as he followed me.

Once I pointed out his defective headlight, he became quite sheepish, and was seen a few minutes later parked at a petrol station with his bonnet open.

The transit minibus I was driving might well have been 15 years old, but it was in A1 condition. Still, I'm not sure that I would have the balls to do it again......
