What is a 2008 CLS63 AMG worth?

I was at my local MB dealer for a service recently and one of the salesmen asked if I would be interested in a new C63. I currently have a 2008 CLS63 with 44000 miles on the clock, with pretty much every option except distronic and it is in immaculate condition with a full MBSH.

He said he would put a package together to tempt me. The c63 was just over £50k and he said he would offer me a trade in of £15000 for my CLS.

He wondered why my first reaction was to laugh, then dismay when I realised he wasn't joking. I would have thought that a trade in for the CLS would be around £20k and if I sold privately maybe £22k to £23k. Am I wide of the mark here?

Sold privately you would probably get around £23,000.

Obviously the dealer will try and buy it for the lowest price they think they can get away with to tempt someone who has their heart set on a new one.

Question is, do you want a C63? If it was me, I'd sell the CLS privately so I'm armed with more cash to negotiate a better deal.

C63 has the same engine as your CLS, with less power. Granted, the C63 is lighter.

makes sure you take the C63 for an extended test drive before committing.

I'm not sure what the C63 does so much better than your CLS63 ...

So he wants you to pay over £35k on top of your car for a car that has less power and is due to cease production very soon?

No wonder you laughed!

One other thing to keep in mind is that the C-Class would be a step back in quality and refinement compared to the CLS. I've seen quite a few people do the same and then regret it.

What they said...don't do it!

Instead of selling the CLS, get in touch with Acid at MSL and get a Weistec supercharger fitted. :thumb:

Thanks for the comments guys. On reflection I don't think I will be trading in the CLS63 any time soon. It is definitely a keeper and I shall keep paying for a decent warranty to mitigate the risk of huge bills as it gets older.
