Greetings!

As per title,really.

I need to know the outside diameter of the centre section exhaust on my 1993 E220 Coupe.

The MOT Station fitted this ploppy Timax system, all bar back box.
Seems to keep blowing at this centre join. They overtightened it and one of the brackets cracked, they kept it quiet but I heard Oh nooooo, followed by the dzzzzzzzzd of the MIG welder. The brackets are now both bent in towards eachother.

Soooooo, you may now have realised where I'm going with this.Yup,sleeving it.
I hate the way this system is only single cat too. Also,I've had the back box off already to empty lumps of charcoal out of it.I know she's blocked again now as she doesn't want to rev over 4k.

I won't name and shame the garage,as they're so out in the back of beyond you'll never have heard of them anyway lol!! Never again!!

Timax have been in the exhaust business for years, they make pretty good parts.

Its probably down to using poor quality exhaust clamps that's the problem, they sheared the stud off one side over tightening it, either its the wrong sized clamp or
they have a monkey on the spanners there.

Wurth UK make some of the best exhaust clamps I have ever used and abused :)

Hi mate

Hey you know on this system, they have the two pieces, diamond shaped, each with 2 holes in,which slide to the fluted ends and join?
So not a case of chocolate clamps in this case.

I noticed they had a faff fitting it.
Yup I know Timax and Walkers etc have been about for ions.Shame they don't fit like the Mercedes system.
The front pipe with twin cats was 20 years old and original :D Go Mercedes!!

So the Walkers catalogue which I just found says 2 1/2"
I'm assuming the whole system is exactly 2 1/2" and I'm safe sleeving some 2 3/4" in there???
