What is going on - No more Petrol/Diesel by 2040

Honestly what to make of this.



Im just glad i got chance to drive some seriously silly motors!

My generation will be the last who really get to drive the big old beasts! the days of the 6.2 V8 hammer are a dying memory.

No More New Petrol and Diesel by 2040

They haven't thought it through. The infrastructure for everyone to go electric will not be there, the range of electric cars needs to be drastically improved and the supply of electricity at peak charging times will be inadequate.
In my view, it won't happen within that timescale. Hydrogen fuel cells is the way to go, but a long way in the future before it is a viable alternative.

Got room for more solar panels on my roof though. Wonder if I could short circuit them and produce my own electricity to charge "Torchy" my new electric car in 2040, oh hang on it will be a wheel chair by then.

Or my own private windmill in the back garden.

As for electric motorsport, isn't Formula E becoming very popular?

many countries have nuclear power plants, many of these possible timebombs will be shut down coz they get old and unsafe.
if there are no power plants anymore, how are electric cars going to get their batteries charged?
from solar panels, electric wind mills, water turbines producing power?

in Sweden we have the enviromental facists M-P in the government, these MO-FO wants to ban everything that pollutes even cows farting carbon dioxide!
only Richie Rich people will and can afford to buy and drive non polluting vehicles in the future, politicians never think of the little people who can't afford buying the most modern and safest non polluting vehicles.
I guess that's why I drive an 18 year old AMG, can't afford to buy a new car

Oh i intend to do the same, what a joke this country is, i mean for real do you see China and the USA stopping petrol and diesel cars? no i dont... and they are the biggest problem.
We only produce something like 2% of the worlds emissions.

This is the part that hurts me the most, as an avid fan of rallycross, forest stages and being up close with the motorsport, to me its all about the noise i dont wanna watch electric cars, i go to watch because the shear engineering inside some of the motors is truly amazing.
If motorsport goes electric im out.

They are only planning to stop manufacture of new petrol vehicles by 2040?
Thinking positively, this means that there is still another 23 years of being able to buy internal combustion vehicles brand new.
After that, there will be millions of proper cars still on the road and available for many years after for us all to play in? (well, those of us who are still alive !)

after 2040 are they going to scrap all diezel/petrola cars?
that's a massive waste of money and energy!
