What software do I need for making DVD's from my video camera?

Cheers Mozzer. I have just realised that my notebook cant burn dvd's only play them :(

but I suppose I could create the necessary files then burn these to a data cd then take me cd to work & burn a dvd on one of the new dell's we have just aqquired.

Normally the files generated for DVDs are extremely large and will probably not fit onto a CD. Cd capacities are up to 800Mb whilst single sided DVDs are 4.7Gb, Dual layer DVDs are 8.4Gb.
I think you would be better off shelling out some dough and buying a DVD recorder.
Mac.

You could convert to AVI format or SKVCD both will put a single DVd onto a cd the SKVCD will play on a normal player the avi will play on certain machines Ive seen a few for £30 or so that will play avi and most other formats.
If you have access to a dvd burner you can put 4 or 5 films in avi/divx onto a dvd and play them.

Still think a capture card is the easiest in view of the cable setup mentioned earlier and the software would give you the choice of formats to use.

The original question was that he wants to make a DVD. I assumed from that that he would wanted a DVD and not a VCD or SVCD or any other format. Most older DVD players are unable to decode DIVX encoded files and there is a substantial degradtion in quality if the whole 4.7Gb is squeezed down to 800mb.

thanks for the help & advice so far.

A further development is that I have found a DV socket on my laptop. :o

what I will likely do is buy a DV cable connect the camcorder to my laptop - copy the tape onto my latop using my newly aqquired Ulead 8 software ;) then network the laptop to a works pc that has a DVD burner & hopefully this will give me the results I am after.

a bit long winded I know but if it works, I can then get a proper external capture card & dvd burner.
