What temp do you set your climate control?

Nice to know well for now on I will set my temperature de 22-24 and let the auto mode handle the rest !

Most modern Mercedes have an electrically heated radiator in the aircon unit in addition to the engine coolant heat exchanger to warm the air until engine heat takes over.

Set it and forget it.

Just like your home, setting a high temp does not heat the house more quickly...it just means you have to remember to turn it down again...why bother?

Try telling Mrs Ted that...

21 Manual and I don't use zones, Mrs MD doesn't want to play with setting her temperature side so we kind of agreed to keep it on 21 for all. Only during Summer months I set it on Auto 18 with AC on.

I set mine to 20ºC in the winter, 18ºC in the summer. Never off.

I just set my side to 24 and leave it alone. - Maybe drop it down if I'm feeling a little too warm.
The boss lady fiddles with her side a bit more, but not more than a couple of degrees up and down.
I can never get boss lady to understand "Auto" car has duel climate control and every time I get into the car following her drive I need to set 23 and auto, no matter how I try to explain the thermostat control and her and my comfort HTMBO thinks she knows best. Once tried to explain why AC in winter is a good idea! forget it, "just makes the car colder" is the reply. I now don't even bother trying to explain and or acknowledge the dreaded cold stare as I immediately but quietly start the car and set the heating, auto, 23 and AC on!

Indeed, even our Vito has this although (somewhat bizarrely) you have manually turn it on & off!

I posted this about seven years ago. I can confirm that nothing has changed.

Guys, I really dont think you understand how climate control works. The aim is not to leave it at a set temperature all year round - that defeats the whole point.

This is how to use it correctly.
Hot day.
Get in the car. Press DOWN button thirty times until 'Lo' has been displayed for at least twenty presses.
Complain that the aircon is crap.
Wait five to ten minutes.
Complain that the car is too cold.
Open window to let heat in.
Press UP button to at least twenty five degrees.
wait five minutes.
Complain that the car is too hot
Complain that the aircon isn't working properly
Leave window open.
Press DOWN button until it says 'Lo'
Mess around with fan speeds.
Repeat above for the entire journey, with window in various states of open/closed.

Cold Day.
Get in the car. Press UP button thirty times until 'Hi' has been displayed for at least twenty presses.
Complain that the heating doesn't work properly.
Wait five to ten minutes.
Complain that the car is too hot.
Open window to let cool air in in.
Press DOWN button to at most fifteen degrees.
wait five minutes.
Complain that the car is too cold
Complain that the heating isn't working properly
Close window.
Press UP button until it says 'Hi'
Mess around with fan speeds
Repeat above for the entire journey, with window in various states of open/closed.

At least that's how Mrs Ted works it.

Edit: bit of a fib. Things have changed a bit. The above is now accompanied by a lot of huffing and puffing.

22 for passengers, off for me usually in winter, though I do turn on the heated seats . if very cold then I just turn the vents on but ac not activated .

in summer , usually 22

When she's a passenger, my wife tends to fall asleep on anything but the shortest journey. I find that turning her seat heater to max once she's asleep tends to wake her up again, and her first words are invariably "It's f*****g boiling in here!" :D

She falls asleep when on the back of the bike too...

I could have written that.

Have you noticed that the fairer sex stab at the buttons with their pointy little digits as well?

BMW have an amusing feature where you can have the top vents blow outside temperature air whatever the Mrs does to the buttons.

In the 170 and 210 they had those pokey out circular controls that she used to FLICK to try and get them to go from one extreme to the other.
Annoyed the hell out of me.

I have this type of CC and in winter I generally have it set to 18*C. That way I find not too much of a differential when getting out of the car.

I think the "REST" facility quite unique and handy...... ;)

ps. Yes I know, the delamination is a pity. :(

20 years back my 216Gsi had vents that simply opened to the outside. So in winter I could have cool air on my face and warm air on my feet. Absolutely loved it. As tech has "progressed" I don't know of any modern car that can do the same?
