What temp do you set your climate control?

20 years back my 216Gsi had vents that simply opened to the outside. So in winter I could have cool air on my face and warm air on my feet. Absolutely loved it. As tech has "progressed" I don't know of any modern car that can do the same?
All BMWs.

22 auto in winter, spring and autumn mostly. Sometimes 24 and pointing at legs if they have got cold sitting at my desk for too long, really thaws you out.

In summer I usually drop down to 20 auto.

The W215 (and probably W220) allows cool air on the face.

Centre vents on the 129 can switch between cold, "ambient" (i.e. whatever the climate control was set to) or hot. My A8 has variable temperature control for the centre vents too.

211 has it but 212 doesn’t (at least mine doesn’t)

Well chaps,

I set the temp to 20C today and AUTO...

Wow, that works brilliantly. Perfect temperature, before I was roasting when the heating was on, and freezing when it was off.

No more fogging of the glass too. Love it.
Thanks guys.

Is that actually true?

Yes. Middle dashboard vents have a dial graduated from blue to red. If you have it on blue they will allow in cold air irrespective of how hot you have the heater set. Great idea and I can't believe other manufacturers don't do it.

Yes, quite a handy feature.

My Rover 75 had the same thing - just visible below the Vents....

The R230 has the same setup as the R129.

I would imagine the whole HVAC system was BMW on those.

Yes, as well as a lot of the electrics/loom. Also some of the features like the global opening, wipers going from on to intermittent when at a standstill, parking assist etc.... I know a bit of a "Marmite" car but they were very underrated. The only weakness being the 1.8 K-Unit really.

I miss mine - I sold it to a chap that flew in from Dublin to buy it! I spent a lot of time sprucing it up..... And it didn't look too bad when I had finished.

That looks very tidy!
Off topic now: I was at the NEC show when the Rover 75 and the Jag S-Type were launched. (1998 I think?). There was a huge amount of pre-show build up about the Jag, but on the day the crowds around the 75 were immense and the Jag barely got a look in. Rover really got the blend of retro and modern right, where as the Jag just looked chintzy from day one. A crying shame Rover went the way it did.
