My daughter has just purchased a Mini one which has a rather fetching black and white chequered roof whch looks like it is made with the use of vinyl white squares which appear to have got rather discoloured apparently from parking under a tree.

I've tried cleaning them with T-Cut and a coupe of polishes I had in my ****nal with no effect, despite signs of someone making some progress in cleaning one of the squares quite recently.

Anyone know what I should try and tackle this task with?

I have fond armourall to be very good at cleaning vinyl.Great for roof or interior ( not on steering wheel though as it tends to be a bit slippery).

Be really careful with Armoural.

Back in the early nineties I had an immaculate E30 BMW 323i. I was then, and still am now, fastidious with my cars. As directed on their packaging, I used Armoural to 'protect' the dash, bumpers, etc.

It's terrible stuff! Inside of six months the dashboard developed eleven cracks, Armoural worked like cooking oil and my dash ended up fried!

I have never used the stuff again.

Depending on the glass fitted, you can experience just as much cooking of the dash in an English winter if the sky's clear...

Renovo make a cleaner specifically for vinyl soft tops, boat seats etc. Haven't used it myself - I'm waiting for a 3 stage kit to do the canvas roof of my cabriolet.

Having seen the state of dashboards in cars parked in the Florida sun, I have never witnessed ANY car in the UK with such damage. Damage like that in the UK in winter? No chance.

303 aerospace protectant. I use it on all plastics and vinyl. My 8 year old e class which is out all the time, vinyl and rubber look like mint. Well worth a try. It is spf40 I first got it imported from the US now it is readily available in UK. Can even cope with Florida sun

Meguiars APC diluted 1 part product to 10 parts water will do a good job of cleaning that I suspect. Spray it on, leave it to dwell for a little while and gently clean with a microfibre.

A little trick in the trade of vinyl and ppf films..... purchase duragloss white wall tyre dressing. Can work very well at removing contaminants in vinyl. If you would like more indepth info on the subject pm me.

A record cleaning brush.
