Hi,

My MIL is looking to take out a lease for a new car. They've always had Volvo's before which they've owned - V70 estates the last 2 times (2.4D), but are now considering leasing, potentially a Mercedes. :thumb:

They have been quoted £499 inc for a C250 CDI Sport AMG Estate, but I thought that sounded a little steep? (3+23)

So my questions are:
1. Is this about on the money, or can someone else recommend a good leasing firm?
2. As they are used to V70's has anyone got any opinion's on how they would get on with a C250 after coming from this? Would an E-Class be better, and/or should they consider a 350?

Thanks!

Try following website - a portal giving latest deals from various companies: Contracthireandleasing.co.uk - sounds v high would expect £300 - £325 month 3+23 10000 miles pa.
My C350 CDI Sport is £403 per month 6+23 but I found an amazing deal on a car that seemed to have been lost in the system

Sorry jadefox I'm at the other end of the market to you. But more help will be on hand soon.

I was offered a E220 SE CDi estate with auto and command, full leather, 17" alloys, £360 month all in.

As above the C class is pretty small inside if your used to a bigger volvo?

I'm pretty sure there will be better deals around

Thanks guys. The car's not for myself unfortunately, but it's all good feedback :/

I haven't been in a modern E-Class but I felt it may be a better choice for someone coming from a V70. I was asked how the engine compared? I think the V70 is a 5 cylinder, and they were wondering if they might not get the power from the 4-cylinder 250?

I think it would have to be the E250 CDI if it's the E-Class they went for due to wanting to keep the emissions below 160.

We came to Mercedes this year (an E220 CDI) after years with a Volvo S60 (still got that) and assuming that our next family bus would be a V70.

The V70 proved a disappointment: superb seats and the best interior ergonomics in the business, of course, and the excellent new D3 engine, but the steering is horribly vague, the automatic is always in the wrong gear (and the manual suffers from no footrest and no hill-hold to complement the electric parking brake). Worst, it's not nearly as spacious as Volvo's reputation - and motoring journos who lazily equate V70 with space without getting out the tape measure - would have you believe. The rear seat is short of legroom and the boot of height above the high floor. A pity, because despite the flaws it's a likeable car - but the E is a better one in some important respects.

Power-wise there's little to choose. Our E220 feels heavy sometimes, but its paper figures are very similar to the 2.0 Volvo D3, and it's plenty quick enough when it needs to be. The 250 engine in the smaller C body ought to go rather well.

A Mercedes - E or, I suppose, C - takes some getting used to, but probably less than in the days when everything else came with a proper handbrake. I can't pretend to like the foot-operated device in mine, but it's worth tolerating for the car's other qualities, especially on a long trip. A reasonably intelligent and adaptable driver should have no problems; one very set in their ways might take some convincing.

May I ask who was offering that?

I just started a lease for an E220 SE Exec estate on a similar deal from dsgauto.com and can recommend them, it was the second time I used them.

Deal has gone now but he did say he will keep me informed when more come through.

^ too be honest I cannot remember.

He could offer 3 plus 23 and 6 plus 23 or 6 plus 35 etc etc

You could also buy it at the end.

The lease on 6+35 had a balloon of £17950 at the end. So overall didn't sound too bad?

Surely if there's a balloon then that's lease purchase? You're shouldering the risk that the car is worth £17950 (or more) at the end.

^ this was an option take it or leave it apparetly?

Doesn't sound too bad? 3 year old £35K new price worth £17K in 3 years?

£17,950 is £18K not £17K. Man-maths at work again. :)

I wonder if the deal was actually a PCP, with the £17,950 being the GFV? With a lease you normally cannot buy the car directly (I forget why, there's some tax reason) and with a lease purchase the final value isn't guaranteed, it depends on what the car's worth.

Anyway, assuming you walked away at the end it looks pretty good. I'm hoping the new ML will be available at low prices but I'm not holding my breath. Just got back from the US and saw the ML350 being advertised at $440/mth.

^ yes ok £18K :)

Still seemed a good deal?

I'm in no rush I'm enjoying my S211, out in it today and game it some beans at one point and I thought...wow thats quick.

It been used to carry all sorts again and the trailers been on it more than off lately.

Mr Jadefox got a list of lease prices through his work and they seem to have special deals with maintenance included, wondered what people thought...

C250 cdi amg sport auto estate. Standard model with metallic paint. £519.
This is on a flat 24 payments (i.e. No deposit) with maintenance included. Saloon would be £465.94.

Does anyone know what the maintenance DOESN'T usually include?

I think twelve thousand, four hundred and fifty-six pounds, for two years' use of a medium-sized estate car? Wouldn't tempt me.
