What to look out for when buying a CL55 AMG?

This is all so interesting and very handy info to no via buying a cl600 or cl55

As MPG says, there are no wheel-mounted buttons for gear changing on the 600. However, it is possible to change gear manually using the plus and minus positions with the selector lever in D.

The 500 is a great car but the performance is not really on the same page.

The 600 and 55k have completely different characters, they are chalk and cheese.

Make sure you know what you want from the car before you set your heart on either.

The 55k is loud and proud, slightly stiffer suspension and more supportive AMG seats.
600 bi turbo on the other hand...silent missile. Most comfortable car on the road and would leave pretty much anything else behind on a straight open stretch of road.

The 600 will have higher running costs than the 55k. Fuel consumption will be similar though.

I will always argue that the 600 bi turbo is the quicker of the 2 cars in a straight line even though on paper they are identical.

I'm more of a loud and proud man. Being 27 years old and having mates that drive RS4's and R32's so I think I would prefer the CL55.

Just waiting for the right one to pop up. Want to try and get one before Xmas as I am planning a road trip to France the Germany then maybe Amsterdam during the Xmas holidays until the new year. So would be nice to take a comfortable car rather than the Transporter I have:

Well either car will leave any RS4 or R32 for dust in a straight line, your mates may as well get some 4 pot diesels as they won't be keeping up on the autobahn.

Mine is a n/a cl55 and not much keeps up with it already... It laughed in the face of a mates R32, couldn't even get close to me. Even a mate with a e46 m3 couldnt keep up in a straight line.

Good to know guys.

I've been looking at this one for a while, what do you guys think? Is the price a bit on the high side or is it worth it?

Be warned though, once you've owned a CL, everything else is a step down.

The only car I think it can be compared to is probably the Bentley Continental, but even they don't feel as luxurious as a CL.

So far apart from the expensive repair costs all I keep hearing is good things about this car. Making me want one more and more now :thumb:

No matter what one you buy, it WILL have problems eventually!

The most annoying thing about the car is the fact that it takes 10minutes to fill it up with fuel which you can then drain again VERY QUICKLY...

Wheel not good.

Well I'm out of the hunt, put a deposit on an slk today!

Any luck yet? I've owned my cl55k for a few years now and every time I get in it, it never fails to impress me. It is not the nimblest or lightest car in the world but the relentless performance is something else! :bannana:
And yes it has cost a reasonable sum of money to maintain correctly - an absolute must imho but worth every penny.
If you are a true 'petrol head' you'll just love it!

Still looking mate you don't understand how much I am looking for one. Literally day and night everyday I am checking to see if a new one to my spec has popped up but nothing yet :(

Anyone seen the videos from this guy on youtube aydinvideo - YouTube

He's done some neat mods to his CL55 and has some good how to guides.

One I like in particular is the lowering links. Will defo be getting a set when I get my car.

I waited 18 months.

I had a V12TT W215 before and it was amazing. The leather, the comfort, the ergonomics, the design, the performance - everything was truly perfect about that car.

Few days back I paid a deposit on a V8K W215 that I collect next Wednesday. The moment I saw it on the net I knew it was mine. The interior is light grey and feels superb. I'll snap some pictures up when I collect it next week.
