You know the feeling, the sun hits the screen and all the little dirt dots join forces and you can't see a thing.

Cleaned with a spray and clean cloth but I still have what appear to be "grained in" specs which act like tiny prisms when you get the full glare of the sun.

Is there a mildly abrasive cleaner I can use to get rid of this?
that doesn't scratch the glass?

My favourite is autoglym glass polish combined with a spotlessly clean microfibre cloth.... The microfibre cloth being crucial.

isnt the old trick newspaper & vinegar?

I've tried the screenies, I thought they were ok for a quick once over but I need something more.

The Autoglym polish and cloth treatment sounds worth a try.

Thanks.

You may find that it is caused by lots of tiny stone chips and scratches in which case I would put a hammer throught the screen and let the insurance deal with it. I used to get my screen filled with thousands of tiny stone chips when I used to cover a lot of motorway miles.

You can remove tiny scratches with T Cut and lots of elbow grease

Yep, I use Autoglym 'Glass Polish' and their 'Fast Glass' and both give good results, the only pain being that they are chalky and if you're not a nazi with the cloth when applying it you can get it into the cloth windscreen surrounds, obviously almost impossible to remove afterwards.

Can't beat a load of dry paper towel to finish off though.

Is the microfibre used to apply the glass cleaner or is it to buff it up afterwards?

Both :) one on cloth and one off cloth

I bought a bottle of Autoglym glass polish and the cloth, gave the glass a good going over on Sunday. The results were very good - all I need now is some sunshine for the acid test.

Once a cloth has oil in it, it is effectively useless. It attracts dirt and dust.

The method I like is to use mountains of paper. Use the paper once, throw it out. Use another piece once, throw it out.

Surprisingly it is faster and uses little paper. It is the only method i know that removes oil without spreading it.

As for the solvent ...... anything from hot breath to fancy chemicals will do.
