Hi All,
Bought a tired W124 back in April for the princely sum of £500. Since then, it's been parked up whilst I've given it a bit of a refurb....
So, I've replaced both rusty front wings with new pattern parts (all panel gaps etc are very neat), treated all other rust (minor), repaired the boot-lid (which had a skull carved into it!) and had 50% of the car resprayed. I've also replaced blown aftermarket speakers with genuine MB, fixed the sunroof so that it's now functional and re-trimmed the parcel shelf (as it had been butchered to fit speakers). I've carried out some extensive rust-proofing and given the car a good clean/machine polish and sorted out a few other small issues.
Now also has 6 months tax and would be given a fresh MOT before the sale. I've driven the car for a 6 weeks/2,000 miles and it's very strong mechanically - excellent oil pressure and temperature, returns ~34mpg...oh and it's got a new battery.
Condition is fairly good, it obviously looks the part now, albeit with a few scratches, but certainly much, much, much better than most other W124's of a similar age. Interior has a slightly worn drivers bolster but other than that is fantastic - recently given a steam clean.
Spec is as follows;
1994 "L" Mercedes E220 (16v-4cyl.)
2.2 Litre Petrol - 4 speed Auto with Sport mode
136,000 miles
FSH
5 Owners
Metallic Black
4x Electric Windows
Electric Mirrors
Electric Sunroof
CD Player
PAS
Climate Control
Air Bag
Grey Fabric Interior
Comfortable, reliable and surprisingly economical - great for smoking around in, happy cruising at motorway speeds (and more) all day long in supreme comfort. I didn't take on the project to make a profit, more to save a W124 from the scrapyard and to give me a chance to learn something new.
Any ideas what it's worth?
Thanks in advance,
Ryan.
